My apologizes for pumping old thread but I have good reason I think.
I bought recently gv-nx66128dp (attached) inspired by Philscomputerlab win98 PCI-E NV6600 on 775 video. Of course I did not pay attention to exact gigabyte card version and ended up with gv-nx66128dp with device id 0141

However I decided to give a shot anyway. Card seems to be working just fine on Asus psg41t mlx (G41 chipset) MB using oerg866 win98-quickinstall image. I had to install NVIDIA v77.72 drivers manually via device manager but that's all.
I have run so far 3DMArk tests 2k, 2001SE and 2003 without any problems. Will see how is the stability with longer run

Edit: Update - not all good - I cant open dos programs, not even command prompt - windows is crashing with GPF (nor blue screen, just dialog box). Tested with both 77.72 and 81.98 drivers. When setting desktop resolution to 640x480 16 colors then dos programs are starting to work. Booting to native dos is however working fine

I'm in the same spot as you. I found some info on another thread that a bios update to the card solved the issue. I've downloaded the latest bios and a version of nvflash that *should* work. I'm waiting on a cpu cooler for the target machine to test though. I'll report back.

PATCHMEM is installed (with the parameters "/A /C:256 /M")? In Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE, it is highly recommended to use it on PCI-E systems to fix some exotic errors that were first fixed in Windows ME. Additionally, try to limit the amount of memory (for testing purposes) from 2048 MB to a "safe" 512 MB, with a step of at least 256 MB (until the issues are resolved). In the future, you will be able to select the optimal volume for your configuration without any problems. To limit memory, you can use "BURNMEM" (which is the most flexible for modern (and not only) machines, is being developed, and is relevant) or its equivalents.

Yes, in addition, add also "/NUMHANDLES=64" (Or 128, depending on the total amount of RAM) to the line "HIMEM.SYS" in "CONFIG.SYS". It has been observed that this parameter also affects DOS windows. For example:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\Himem.Sys /MACHINE:AT /NUMHANDLES=64 /VERBOSE

I also recommend checking the 2D speed (measure and compare with the readings obtained in WinXP - the results should be approximately equal or better). On PCI-E systems, MTRR is configured by default so that WC is not enabled in almost all cases under Windows 9x\Me (which affects the speed of rendering the Windows interface; programs that use GDI, as well as DOS games, and this performance difference can be very significant).

I found a temp solution to the cooling so tried a bios update on the card. No joy there. I've tried these Config.sys settings on my machine and still having the issue. I only have 512Mb of physical ram in the machine so that should good right?

@DoZator
In order to eliminate RAM issue I actually "downgraded" my 775 platform to different MB (ASUS P5B-E Plus) so I can use smaller DDR2 512MB memory module - still no fun. Tried also Windows ME - same result.
However I found workaround for DOS programs - via dedicated PIF file for DOS programs I can force app to start in full screen mode which works. "alt-enter" back to windowed mode works then as well.
Also I observed that if I invoke this error at least once windows becomes sort of unstable. For example it freezes on shutdown (repeatable). In some cases opening nvidia display properties will freeze system.
I will experiment with your suggestions over weekend . Thanks for suggestions.

"Fixed" my issue by adding extra "T" to model number. Yes I got another card I actually intended to get. Since I did not pay attention to all letters when I got GV-NX66128D. Now new card GV-NX66T128D does not have any issues with DOS prompt. Also GT version substantially faster.
