I ordered one of those cheap Sil3114 cards off eBay for my Socket 7 build and of course it came with an AM28F010 fitted and the RAID BIOS. This EEPROM cannot be reflashed (with the IDE BIOS) by the card because it requires 12 volt Vpp. I removed it with a hot air gun.
Digging around my pile of parts, I found an AMIC A29040L I had salvaged from a broken CD-ROM drive. 512K X 8 Bit = 4MB which is plenty of room for a 128K IDE BIOS.
However, it is not listed as a supported chip in the provided UPDFLASH utility for MS-DOS. But flashrom on Linux supports the A29040B, which seems to be a slightly different chip although I don't know what the difference is.
Is it possible?
