Ive got an old compuadd 212 I picked up and Ive been trying to get a sound card installed . I want to get both the game port to use an old joystick i picked up seperately (Its an old quickshot joystick advertised in compuadds catalog so i know its compatible )and of course exterior speaker sound working.
The machine is running dos 4.1 and has windows 3.0 as well though it does not automatically boot to that. It has the max ram for that system of 4mg and side note I still cant get the system to acknowledge all of it which I know is in part a fault in the limitations of dos. During bootup when it does the testing in protected mode portion it definitely tests all 4 sticks as i watch it run the numbers 4 times. Any help if there is a work around for that would also be appreciated.
Back to the subject at hand the card is physically in the system. I tried soundblaster 16 driver and utilities disks from 1994 that id found but no dice getting the card working under normal installation. I also did try switching the channel it was on in case there was a conflict despite that this is the only isa card installed. I read somewhere that this card was better suited to the sbbasic drivers so i deleted all the stuff id installed and found those and made a floppy but everytime i try to run install i get an error about not enough space on conventional memory to install. Or sometimes instead I get it asking for the drive letter where the files are but it cant find them and i end up having to abort the install. This second error might be a fault of my diskette copy. I got the disk files from phils computer lab but i have no idea if those files are meant to just be copied direct to a floppy ( which is what I did) or i should have done something different. Ive tried a few things but honestly at this point i feel like ive muddled things up so badly that i need to just delete anything ive done and start fresh with hopefully some insightful instructions for getting things installed and working from scratch. This is not my forte and I feel like im just making things worse with every suggestion i find online that I am likely implementing extremely poorly. Any other system info needed to help me with this I will gladly supply Im just not sure what all will be helpful. Ive got integrator on it for editing autoexec.bat and config.sys. files as all my research indicates thats part of the process. I have futzed with those already in my efforts to no avail and probably to the detriment of the systems boot process. It still boots im just sure its bypassing garbage i added to do it 🤣. Ive added pics of the boot up screens, config.sys and the autoexec.bat file to help things along.
Ill even sit through some vogon poetry or take my turn lying in front of a bulldozer to prevent someones house being knocked down (dealers choice) if someone is able to help me get this thing working.

This is a very comprehensive guide for the CT2770: https://www.dosdays.co.uk/topics/retro_review_ct2770_pt1.php

Also, there seem to have many errors in your config and autoexec files... Remove the @ECHO OFF from your autoexec to see what is giving you the "bad command" errors.

hi yes I am sure there are many errors on my config and autoexec files 🤣 As I said I really muddled them. I will do as suggested and remove the echo off in order to see exactly what I have done to them.
As for the tutorial you linked thank you for that. I am already running into a confusing portion though that isnt well explained( for me anyway)nor is there a picture showing what it should look like. It is the part telling what the jumper settings are.
"The Sound Blaster 16 Value CT2770 is what I would consider "semi Plug & Play" - that is, you set jumpers for the I/O addresses the card will use, both for the digital audio part and the MPU-401 (MIDI) interface part. The choices for the former are set via jumpers IOS0 and IOS1 in the lower-middle of the card, with choices of 220h (closed/closed), 240h (open/closed), 260h (closed/open) or 280h (open/open). Right next to these jumpers is another one, MSEL. If closed this uses the default MPU-401 address of 330h, but if open it will use 300h."
I cant tell if its saying all the choices for 220 240 260 and 280 should be set or just the one you are using. As I said this is not my area so I really need in depth explanations.

ok after actually looking at the card I think I get the jumper thing.

If you are using DOS 6 or better, you can skip CONFIG.SYS by holding down the shift key during boot, or pressing F5. As I don't see any "Starting MS-DOS..." message, I assume you are on DOS 5.0, so there is no way to skip CONFIG.SYS when you boot from the hard drive. You would have to boot DOS from floppy, and then edit CONFIG.SYS on the C drive to remove the "DEVICE=C:\CTCM\CTCM.EXE" line. That's what you need to get your PC booting again.

Then, remove anything related to CTCM. You don't need it. CTCM is a tool to initialize fully jumperless "ISA Plug & Play" cards that adhere to the modern Plug and Play standard. The CT2770 is no Plug and Play card, though. Instead of being initialized by CTCM, you select the port number using jumpers, and the remaining parameters are initialized by DIAGNOSE. You only need to install the SB16/SB AWE 32 basic driver disk.

yeeeeeeeeessss! sound is working. havent tested joystick yet and dont see any utility within the sb settings for testing the game port but at least card is up and running with proper drivers and such so getting the joystick thing sorted from here shouldnt be too hard.
