I can't get the audio driver to work properly in Freddy Pharkas... The music works fine, but the sounds only work initially - some initial sound can be heard in the very beginnning, then silence.
I have the CD edition and I believe the sounds are read from the CD. The sound card is Sound Blaster 16 (CT 2290).
HOWEVER, if I change the sound driver in the installation program from Sound Blaster to Thunderbird everything works fine! Very confusing...

I have tried GOSIERRA as well, didn't help...

Also, I tried it with another sound card, ESS AudioDrive.. works fine there as well (with the Sound Blaster driver).

Any ideas?

Yes, much is pointing towards that. I guess Sierras drivers could have been better back then.

My machine is a 486DX2-66

There were some updates but many are hard to find these days. Try this page: https://sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/Patche … ardDrivers.html
Freddy is not on the list of games fixed/compatible with the patches but I'd try anyway, chances are some titles were simply not tested or assumed to be working and not needing a patched driver.

Thanks, I stumbled on that page as well. It seems however that all links within the page are broken.
Yes, they seem indeed to be hard to find. ChatGPT suggested to simply replace the driver with the file from a game that came later (such as KQVI or SQ5) that potentially have a newer driver. Did not get that to work though.

I have vague recollection of trying to download all these ZIPs years ago, with so-so results but I did get some files. Problem is I can't remember what I did with them 🙁 It was more than a decade ago. I found just one on my HDD, attached.
There's also this: https://archive.org/details/SB16DRV_ZIP

Sounds to me like it could be an irq assignment/conflict problem. Usually when it works briefly then stops it's a sign of that potentially.

Thanks for input. Other games works fine with the current settings though, which I think contradicts conflict issues (I am using default settings: I5 D1 H5 P330).
