Board: MSI 865GM3-LS
Graphics Card: GF4 4200
Disabled onboard sound and a SB Live.
Operating System: Windows98SE, with some optional unofficial update pack.
USB Mouse: Logitech G5
Problem:
While PS2 mouse works fine, on half the USB ports the mouse generates a faint but audible noise (via the SB Live PCI Card) whenever its being moved (not the PS2 Mouse). On the other half of the PS2 ports it's EXTREMELY sluggish. I also noticed that the LED indicators on the USB mouse take a second or so until they light up after plugging it in, while on the other port there are on right away.
Steps I have taken:
-Checked in BIOS about USB devices. Saw that USB Mouse was actually disabled. Enabled it, changed nothing.
-Disabled USB 2.0 Support. Changed nothing
-Installed Setpoint 2.6a2, which has actually no impact on the USB mouse (only PS2)
-Installed the U98SEUSB.EXE from Windows 98SE - USB mouse extremely slow, am I missing something obvious? (Microsoft Driver)
Asked me a couple of times for an ich5core.cat saying %do_nothing%, so I just cancelled every time it asked for a source. After that USB didnt work anymore at all. And both USB controllers showed an error in the System Manager. I reinstalled the Drivers...and the mouse problem is back as it was initially (half the ports have noise, other ports are laggy)
Howver...now it found a new plug and play monitor and then the Graphics were down to 16 Colors? Wtf?
Seems like something killed my Nvidia drivers...so now I am at the point where I best completely reinstall the system I guess.
Any recommendations to make it work the next time? Or would it be recommended to just stick to PS2?
