VOGONS

Hello all,

I've ordered an Acer V35N as my last attempt at finding a motherboard to work with my Tilamook PMMX CPU.

The photos seem to show that the motherboard has 256KB of cache -- with two 32K x8 tag ram chips... And of course, an empty COAST slot. I've gathered from someone who posted a picture of the board on Vogons some time ago with the cache module in it (very blurry, of course) that a UMC branded COAST module will likely work, since they have the a little circular orange QC sticker on the back side.

However, I'm confused about the tag ram on the COAST module. I've read that the tag ram on the coast will be in parallel with the first tag ram on the motherboard -- does that mean I need to find a COAST module with a 32k x8 tag ram? Most (almost all?) 256k COAST modules I've found seem to have a 16K x8 tag ram. What would happen if a 16k x8 and 32k x8 tag were in parallel? Why does the mobo even have two 32k tag rams? The cache on the board is 8ns and the tag is 15ns, so most of the COAST modules on ebay presently seem to be that fast or faster. But basically none of them have 32k x8 tag ram. This module is interesting because it's got a silkscreen for a second 32K x8 tag chip (presumably if there's 512KB of cache populated on the back) -- but -- there's a sticker over the tag that is populated so I can't tell if it's 32K x8 or not!

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,
AN
