3DFX-The great journey continues!

Two days ago, Anthony, aka zx-c64, the first developer of New projects based on 3DFX technology since 2016 and many other projects, published the schematics of “almost” all of his creations.

This journey began “officially” in 2016, the year the developer entered the world of creating projects based on 3DFX technology.

Nine years after this beginning, the developer has made “PUBLIC” all the schematics of his projects that he deemed appropriate to share.

He had already anticipated this gesture at the beginning of his journey, but I believe that sharing hundreds, thousands of hours of work for free brings him great honor.

My hope, clinging to his phrase “almost all of my projects,” is that he will continue to develop new creations.

In any case:

“THANK YOU SO MUCH, MY FRIEND, FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE SO FAR!!!” 🆗

Thousands of hours for free is a year of unpaid work. A coworker does that and you'll be fuming at them for devaluing the work.

Hello vvbee,
In a corporate context, working for a company alongside many colleagues, I agree with you.

But this is a different case, because we are talking about an enthusiast, like you and me, who nine years ago decided, first for himself and then for those who asked him, to create something that would bring back to life a technology abandoned in the 2000s due to Nvidia's acquisition of 3dfx.

What I do for myself, and what I want to share at a later date, does not cause any problems for anyone. On the contrary, this gesture could be a great help to many projects, also based on 3dfx technology, which have been on hold for a few years due to an error in the approach to the preparation of the project itself.

In any case, we owe a big thank you to zx-c64 for his gesture.

Anthony/zx-c64 has done amazing work. I've purchased a number of his cards and hope he continues to develop new cards. I am a bit concerned that he might be stopping due to his website https://www.zxc64.com being offline.

He helped me with a number of questions and issues I had. Even replaced one of my cards after over a year it failed to work.

So far I have purchased:

Mini-Me - Voodoo 4 PCI

The first one I think had 32mb it died and was replaced with a 64mb version.

The 32mb just came in a plain box but the later 64mb version came in complete box w/manual. I ended up purchasing another so I have two.

This is one of my well used cards, I have in my compaq P3.

I did a couple of videos of the 32mb version:

Lost Joker 2

This is a completly crazy card. It includes a Voodoo 3 and PowerVR PCX2 on the same PCB.

Super interesting and unique card.

Special Unified Xcelerator (SUX) 6000

The clone Voodoo 5 6000! Never thought I would own a Voodoo 5 6000, this is almost as good (and in some ways better) than the 3dfx one.

So happy to have this. Lots of quirks and lots of fun to play with. Very expensive (although not because Anthony is over charging).

Neon 250

A PowerVR Neon 250! Again never thought I'd own one. Super cool because maybe rarer than the Voodoo 5 6000.

I haven't had enough time to play with this card.

3dfx Voodoo 5 Changeling

This is basically a remaster of the Voodoo 5 5500. Has AGP 1.5volt support, 128mb ram and HDMI.

I've purchased this with the plan to make it one of my primary/well used cards. Although haven't had time recently to build a machine for it.

Hi mwdmeyer,
thank you for sharing your experience with zx-c64 creations.

Keep in mind that he was able to do all this during a period of great crisis, which I don't want to go into here because this isn't the right place, with problems with suppliers, shipping, packaging, component availability, etc. etc.

Imagine what he could have done if the situation had been more favourable.

The Mini-Me that does not work, what kind of problems did it have?

The machine hard locked during use and then would not POST with the card in it.

I tried on multiple other motherboards and even did some basic troubleshooting with Anthony (voltages etc, which were fine) but could not work out the problem.

It's possible even the VSA100 chip died, so who knows the cause, and could be nothing todo with the board itself.

He replaced it and the new one is working great in the same machine.

Would highly recommend if anyone is interested in his cards to reach out on facebook, he may still have stock of some.

Okay, I understand.
It's a shame you're too far away from Italy, I would have gladly taken a look at your non-functioning Mini-ME to see if it could be repaired...😉

Someone could bring this kind of puppies back with 16MB AGP / PCI at PC and MAC form.
Rage Pro/Rage XL chips are widely available. I would buy it without late LASB41 and 64bit.

Nexus GA has 16MB of WRAM already from 1997
It has ATi Rage Pro and FullHD resolution support

His cards/projects are great. Puts a lot of effort not just in the cards, but small thing, like that the boxes colors they come in are correct! Tells a lot about a person.
All the improvements he makes are also nice.

Anthony is also a god guy and always helpful and willing to indulge every dumb question.

I was always hoping for a 6k version with hdmi.

Hope he is doing ok and can get through whatever is life currently throwing at him.

Hello Dolenc, it's a pleasure to see you again and thank you for the great contribution you made with your 3dfx Wide Screen Drivers! 😀

I agree with everything you said and would like to add: I am one of the ‘stalkers’ who pesters Anthony with stupid questions, sometimes about obvious things, but sometimes I don't see what I already have in my hands...😁
