It actually terminates with an error, you just don't see the message in 0.74-3 because text is not drawn in VESA modes, but in SVN you can at least see the error message.

DOS internals (SFT and devices) are used directly, which is very unusual for a game, but it should work in DOSBox if you boot real DOS.
