Nearing my 40th birthday and I got a bit nostalgic, I'm playing with some spare parts that I had in my stash.
What you're looking at is my take on what 2002's best would be... and a Geforce FX 5900.
Pentium4 3.06HT
D850EMV2
512MB RDRAM PC-1066
Geforce FX 5900
Generic YMF-724 soundcard
Turtle Beach Montego II
Sound Blaster Audigy2
Voodoo3 3000
You see, I had originally popped in a Radeon 9700 Pro, but sadly its showing video artifacts even after I cleaned it and applied new thermal paste.
I didnt really want to stop building, so I put in the Geforce. Being a 2 slot card it also ate one of my PCIs, so the Promise SATA150 TX2 I was planning on using is out of the picture for now.
Oh well.
With the 9700Pro in there, it would be my take on what the "best PC" would look like around end of year 2002, which is when I graduated highschool.
I may look for another 9700 Pro to put in there, but they're kinda expensive these days--and prone to failure like the one I tried.
For now I think I'll just play some old games, customize the cabling a bit, etc.
