Stumped 🙁

No music just digital sound in all games tested.

Dos 6.22 box. No other OS installed.
ASUS P2b Slot 1 (440bx) MB with a 233mhx PII CPU and 3 ISA slots. 32 mb ram. Geforce MX AGP card and the Picogus ISA card are only cards in the system.

Only things I have thought to try are:
Changed IRQ 5 to 7 and DMA 1 to 3 with same results. Disabled serial, parallel, and usb ports in bios with same result. Tried each ISA slot with same result. Disabled L1 cache with same results. The autoexec.bat lines are correct. The yellow led on the Picogus is flashing when music is suppose to be playing in the games just no output to speakers. Any suggestion would be helpful.

Thxs.

Most games require the GUS software to be installed to provide instrument patches, the card had no built-in samples.

It sounds like you are using General MIDI for music. The PicoGUS emulates a MIDI interface card, not the MIDI sound generator itself. In terms of music with just the PicoGUS, the card can work with games that use CMS, Tandy 3 Voice, AdLib, Sound Blaster or Gravis Ultrasound for music sequencing.

If you want to use General MIDI, as mentioned you need to configure the virtual GUS card to act as a rudimentary MIDI music sound generator using the ULTRAMID executable, or connect a MIDI sound generator to the PicoGUS via the MIDI port or wavetable header. (Examples: Roland MT-32, Roland SC-55, Dream Blaster S2, WP32 McCake).

Yes, I left out I am using only games that have native support for GUS so I don't have to load into RAM manually. Auto detect in setup in all games detects the picogus as a GUS but the music test never plays though yellow led flashes on picogus

Since I am out of ideas I did connect my sc-88 to the midi out port on the picogus. Selected general midi for music in a game and it plays music fine. I left the digitaI sound to GUS. I have to run 2 sets of speakers to do this so I get digital sound on one set and music on the other so not ideal.

I got it. I deleted all files and configs and started from scratch. When I used the xcopy command xcopy *.* to copy GUS files over to the C drive I did not use the /e switch to also copy all subdirectories and files so no MIDI folder or subfiles where copied over. Works fine now. Thanks you for your time posting suggestion.
