Thanks for the quick reply.
There is no rush on my part. This is part of my hobby.
If I understand correctly, your project replaces the original AD/DA Ak4510 with a more valid one.
I await your cost estimate.
Good luck with the exam.

Sounds good! Thanks for the update!

I'm ready to make more of these things finally ~

I have settled on 65€ as conversion cost, life has gotten significantly more expensive in the past few years... I'm not completely sure how much shipping will be but I know there's import tax of 25% on value written on the package sent my way.

(exam went well, better than expected even. I got B2 in reading and listening parts, and B1 in writing and speaking parts)

Will this combo work like an Audiotrix 3D-XG? Can the output of the T-05YBSC-A be routed through the TB61XG to apply effects?

No, the effects stuff is wholly omitted on TB61XG, and the YMF71x card doesn't use the sound input feature from WB header, for the simple reason it ruins the sound quality (at least with original DB60XG, the DAC+ADC chip is awful). There's also no sane way to actually route the signal loopback without actually harming the main signal path either so it made zero sense to even try to utilize it. But you have solder pads to the signals and if you really want there's a way you can patch it in with some wires and component relocations.

Hi Tiido! Glad to see your exam went well! I am very interested in sending in my NEC XR-385 to be upgraded to your TB61XG. How do we move forward? Also, are you planning on making those sound cards available for sale, or is that just a personal project?

Thanks!

The way forward is in PMs, where the details about shipping would get discussed. Payments are done via SEPA or IBAN transfer or via Paypal invoice, after the conversion is finished.

There will be no general sales due to fact that donor hardware is hard to come by and tends to be expensive, so it remains a conversion service. There are multiple donor choices but the best one is the XR385 since it often is faulty already (bad capacitors that are often leaking at this point, or failed DAC+ADC chip), but it is also possible to use DB50XG (XQ791), DB60XG (XR712) and SW60XG (XR394) as donor hardware.

The general process is : You send the donor via mail, I receive a donor and transplant the chips, I send an invoice and/or receive payment, then things are sent and eventually you receive the upgrade board after it passes the shipping process (and optionally also the donor board with its relative emptyness). One person I did the conversion for has had to wait 2+ weeks due to things being stuck in customs because of some postal workers strike... Also there are import costs, 25% of the value on the package if it is not sent as a "Gift"... total ripoff, one of the disadvantages of me moving to Norway, but this is a person to person sending so that should work... I'm not completely sure what the sending cost is, but it is also a ripoff if you want tracking. I learned that actually all packages have tracking but they only give you the number after paying a whole bunch extra (but I will take a photo of the shipping label before handing stuff off and the number can be seen there regardless).

For the moment I have 4 more boards left but I'll get more as long as there is demand. The only special parts are ones on the donor board, the rest can be bought without trouble.

Sounds good! I will contact you via PM regarding ordering an XR385 soon!

I was actually referring to the ISA sound card you've pictured above, regarding general availability. That card looks SWEET! Are you planning on making any of those available for sale?

Oh, the sound card will be available eventually™. The hardware is finished but I have not finished its setup software that allows to make full use of it. Once the software is done enough I'll make some more buzz around it. That one will be for general sale although the quantity is gonna be limited, because the chips are getting hard to source but it'll be dealth with when the time comes. Some other higher priority things are in the way for now, such as a trial day tomorrow at a workplace I'll potentially be employed at.

There's more info about the card in the last few pages here : T-04YBSC-A, new YMF71x based sound card + SETYMF utility

It would appear that I do not have permission to send PMs. Been a member for quite a while, just haven't posted much. Just pulled the XR385 off my SB16 and was getting ready to box it up to get it sent to you. Not sure what I need to do to get permission to send PMs.

I suppose there needs to be enough posts before PMs can be sent, but you can send a message to my e-mail : tmeeco@gmail.com

Just got my TB61XG from Tiido... It's absolutely incredible. It sounds as beautiful as it looks. Seriously - this thing is impressive. ZERO background noise, and the clarity difference between this and the old XR385 is night and day. Thank you again, Tiido. I truly appreciate it!

Hello.
I have two old XG cards that, when I tried to use them as standalone cards, suddenly stopped making any sound.
A DB50XG: an electronics friend replaced the A/D chip, but the card remains completely silent. I'm unable to determine the fault. There are no signs of burn marks on any components.
A NEC XR-385 (DB60XG): another friend of mine tried replacing the A/D chip, replacing the original AK4510 with the D63200. Some sound began to be heard, but amidst a sea of loud noise.
Do you think it's possible for you to salvage the components from the two cards to build your own TB61XG? If so, I can send them both, as I don't know what else to do with them.
Thanks for your attention.

Hello.
With this post, I hope I'm not violating any forum rules, as I don't know if the forum is dedicated exclusively to XG hardware.
If so, I apologize in advance.

Over the years, I've developed my own software for managing the DB50XG card, even with the latest versions of Windows: XGControl.
XGControl is free, lightweight and portable.
Tested and fully functional from Windows XP to Windows 11.
It manages not only the standard XG/TG voices but also the User voices of the QS300 synth, for which there is a complete editing section.
I'm attaching a brief presentation of XGControl.
If anyone is interested, please write to me at xgcontrolbg@gmail.com.
Thank you.

DB60XG uses "RJ16" format for the DAC output, while DB50XG uses "LR18" format. So for DB60XG, µPD63200 will not work as it is expecting 18 bits rather than 16 so that explains the sea of noise. It will definitely be possible to get it properly up and running.

The DB50XG is salvageable as long as the main sound chip isn't damaged, ROMs and CPU are always replaceable in some way. In best case scenario there will be two working cards.

That software seems to be pretty nifty, there looks to have quite complete control over what is possible to do with the hardware ~

that looks indeed a very nice program! kudos!
you should post it also on XG-CENTRAL fb group, there are people there that still compose with old xg hardware
