Hi,

Feeling like challenging myself with some retro-programming I decided to try the oldest BASIC for MS-DOS I could find which atm is Microsoft BASIC 5.28 (1977-1983). Unfortunately it doesn't seem to start in DOSBox. Entering MSBasic.com at the prompt simply causes DOSBox to freeze when the core is set to "dynamic". Setting it to "simple" causes MSBasic.com to start and immediately terminate without output. When using loadfix when the core is set to dynamic a message about memory being allocated appears. When the core is set to "simple" DOSBox simply returns to the command prompt.

PS:
Microsoft BASIC appears to work without issue on DOSBox-X regardless of any specific settings.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues and perhaps a suggestion as to what I can try to resolve this? It'd be nice if it could work in DOSBox too.

The fact that it works on DOSBox-X highlights the core compatibility issue since regular DOSBox is designed to run games rather than faithfully emulate the period hardware.

Fair enough. I'm still curious as to what exactly is causing my issue anyway.
