Hello. I’m a recent purchaser of Glidos, with my unlock codes arriving just this morning. I purchased Glidos for the sole purpose of being able to play The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard. Unfortunately, I’m experiencing some problems with loading Redguard with Glidos. I hope the following will help some in determining the cause of my problems.

...

glidos2.gif

After clicking on Start game, then on Ignore, the following appears on my screen.

glidos3.gif

It lags quite a bit at this point until the following pops up.

glidos4.gif

After clicking on Don’t Send, the final message displays before Glidos crashes.

glidos5.gif

...

I’m hardly a computer savvy person, so please bear with me as I attempt to describe my system specifics.

-Motherboard: ???
-Processor type and speed: AMD Athlon XP 1600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.4GHz
-Amount and type of RAM: 768MB RAM
-Video board w/ RAM amount and type: ???
-Sound board: ???
-Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
-Game name (and version, if applicable): The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard
-Reproducibility of problem: Always
-Sound mode used: ???
-Video mode (Software, OpenGL, Direct3D, or Glide, and resolution): OpenGL and 1024 x 768

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, it's hard to help without specifics of your systems. Especially the video card. It's likely that you do not have the OGL ICD that comes with the drivers for whatever video card that you are using.

Can you press

Windows Key + Pause Key.

Go to Hardware
Then Device Manager
Click on Display Adapter

Note whatever is displayed there. This is your video card.

Well I've downloaded the latest drivers, but still keep encountering the same error boxes when I attempt to start the game. Thank you though.

EDIT: Although since you mention TOMB, this screen flashes before disappearing after I click on Start game.

So is that the correct screen for when it's installed correctly?

Yes, Why TOMB?

Snover: in the system specifics questions - request for GliDOS related support - Version of Glidos = ??

Can you install the basic DOS version (non-accellerated) and run it without audio?

This is why the "Buy Glidos" page says make sure it is working before buying. Still with a GF4 you should be okay. Are you absolutely sure you have the latest drivers correctly installed? It looks very much like an OpenGL problem.

Also might be worth you trying an older version of Glidos - say http://www.laserpoint.freeserve.co.uk/Glidos_v1_20.exe

Well, Glidos was working for me fine, albeit with a spinning logo, a few days before I sent you $10 through Paypal and emailed you. If the only drivers I'm supposed to have are the ones that I was linked to in this thread, then yes, I'm assuming they're all installed correctly...

I'm doubtful that that image will assist in anything, but I thought I might post it since you mentioned OpenGL. Something may be checked there wrong or whatnot..

Ahh, then what has changed between then and now?

If you delete the file called Authority.txt from the Glidos folder
then that will put Glidos back in the state it was in before you entered the unlock code. I'm sure that wont make any difference but it would be nice to be sure that unlocking wasn't the cause.

The image you posted at least proves that your drivers have OpenGL support.

One of the views of the driver info shows the version numbers.

Oh yeh: have a look in your Glidos folder at the file OpenGLid.LOG

That may have some very useful info, possibly.

Paul, if he runs Redguard...

Then in the error message, why TOMB?

*Smart-alec comment removed*

You hard-coded the error into GliDOS Paul?

Because I couldn't be bothered to change something that dates
from when Glidos was TR only... you know what its like. 😀

Sadly I don't know. If you haven't noticed by now, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to computers, so I only mess around with them when I know what I'm doing. I honestly can't think of anything I did deliberately that would be causing these problems.

I hope that's what you mean.

Any news on this, guys? While I would very much like to see Redguard running, if you're unaware of a solution to it, I'll just go away and stop pestering you. Thanks.

Give Paul some time. He's the only one that's actually a programmer involved...the rest of us just try to help when we can.

Can you run the "plain" DOS version of this properly within XP?
