So I'm thinking that I want to stretch my legs here and try something new.

A dual boot 98-XP gaming rig using a Cube Shuttle XPC

I'm envisioning a late 98 - early XP era (Directx 8 - Directx 9) era system.

Either a fast pentium 4 or an early dual core, 2 GB ram, ssd drive.... x800 video card (AGP or PCI-e?)... a GoTek floppy emulator with eventually a Pico IDE - CDROM emulator showing at the front
(Probably going directx9c for 3dfx wrappers)

I know next to nothing about these systems so questions abound

  • Do all of these systems have chipset drivers for both 98 and XP
Which systems have AGP vs PCI-e slots
Ventilation and space questions relating to expansion cards

Should I go Pentium 4 or dual core? AGP or PCI-e? (Speed vs compatibility in 98)

Where is the best place on the interwebs to learn the answers to these questions and more?

Help me Vogons.... you're my only hope...

I either fix it or break it permanently... there is no try.

For win98, p4+agp.

For XP, dual core+pcie.

The dx9c stuff will appreciate the dual core and the xp.
