Hi, not sure if it's of any relevance, but I've just stumbled upon a LAN Party themed game.

We used to play over dial-up in the mid-to-late 90's, didn't really start LAN partying until I was at Uni in the late 90's, and then we had some really big ones, which was fun. Out of school, I briefly worked at a computer store (.com crash, only work I could find) and we used to have LAN parties with other stores pretty regularly. We had access to another unit that was easy to setup for this purpose, so slapped in a 3COM 10/100 switch and everyone placed their rig somewhere in the space and we'd be LAN'ing all night, was a lot of fun and attendance was pretty high. UT, Q3A, CS, RTCW, Serious Sam...etc.

DD: Mac Pro 5,1 - X5690, 64GB, RX 580 - OCLP w/Sequoia
Projects:
- Hewitt-Rand 8088 - 640KB, 20MB, Hercules mono
- IBM PS/1 2133 w/Thermalwrong solder mod - ODP 486DX4-100, 32MB
- PCPartner VIB806DS w/233MMX, 128MB, G450
- Jetway J-TX98B w/P75, 256MB

We used to LAN frequently. This was in the Quake1 days; which really took off with the introduction of the voodoo1, LANfest'ing really took off. We LAN'd avidly until probably the early 2000's, when all of a sudden life started happening. Our bunch was in our early 20's at the time. We were all on dialup, so nobody even dreamed of doing this from home. We'd blow eachother up in the FPS's, play some AoE, starcraft, unreal tourney and if we had enough to drink carmageddon was always fun. That was the beauty of LANfests; the games were of course fun, but most of all it was the camaraderie with all our friends and sometimes not so much friends.....ohh the stories I could tell!! There was a bible college in a town nearby; one of 'our guys' was married to the sister of the organizer of their events. For some reason they did not like our group (yes, they were a bit on the snooty side), but being married in we always got the invite and I really think they hoped we wouldn't show....but we did....prepared! Lots of bean burritos, chocolate milk, broccoli, anything that'd make us 'windy'.....and then we'd kick the creamcheese out of them in Quake after all that. I had a fiero gt at the time....now imagine cramming a full tower and a 21" viewsonic into the passenger seat....all the perifs were in a gym bag in the trunk.

Ohh the memories.....

Kids today that sit at home in their bedrooms with a case full of RGB lighting just don't have a clue what they missed.

If you tolerate this, then your children will be next.

Oh yeah, the long ass road journeys were not fun. I went to one event that was up in a remote area of Scotland. (I was living in south of England at time). The worst part of the journey was the last stretch -- Lots of narrow twisty single-lane roads. (Fortunately I didn't find myself tailgating a herd of coos, but apparently that's a common problem for people who live there.)

Plus this was shortly after 9/11, and I was sporting a big bushy beard at the time, so had annoyances with the local cops, which I didn't need as I was already running late.

Is this too much voodoo?
