I've been searching for drivers and a possible BIOS update for my AOpen XC Cube Model EZ65-310 which has an AOpn UX4XG-1394 motherboard and a P4 2.8ghz cpu, 512k ram and an ancient IDE Samsung 80Gb hard drive. It's currently running XP Pro SP3 and I was thinking about installing faster P4 chip, a pair of larger SATA drives and 2GB ram to make it a small Linux workstation or possibly a NAS box. The cube has been sitting in storage since 2011 gbut it fired right up after I inspected it for swollen caps and blew the gray felt insulation out of the case and fans.

I found that the AOpen ftp is no more all over the world. I was technical director at a medical software VAR from 1999 to 2009 and purchased millions worth of AOpen hardware from the Dallas AOpen Tech Center until it closed around that time. I still have more Aopen hardware in storage and since I'm now 72 and retired I have started playing with some of my old hardware from Tandy 1000's, Commodore 128D running C/PM 3, Fat Mac 512, various old 68K Macs, a NeXTstation and a SGI Indy. One of my AutoCAD stations in my shop is a Dell Dimension XPS Pro running Win98 on a Pentium Pro 200 and runs AutoCAD 11 for DOS, AutoCad 12 for Windows and AutoCAD 2000, all left over from my first career as a electrical, control and instrumentation contractor. Anyway, I was kind of shocked to see how diminished AOpen has become and to find trhe ftp site vanished.

So after determining that the ftp site would not help, I started searching an found this forum with its discussion about downloading the site before it disappeared. Did anyone ever publish the files that were salvaged before they pulled the plug? I know that running and admisistering an ftp site can be a hassle. I ran ftp.blackcube.org for NeXT hardware, NeXTstep images and hardware documentation plus around 100Gb of Sun, SGI and Mac information for around 6 years until I left the Medisoft VAR and lost my hosting arrangement. Strangely I still have the old web and ftp servers from that site in storage. I used a SGI Origin 200 for the web server and an a SGI Intel box as the ftp server. I've actually been considering setting it all up again but not on the Origin as it eats a few hundred dollars of kilowatts per month.

So if anyone know about an online mirror of the AOpen ftp site please drop a clue for me. Thanks.

Welcome to Vogons 😀

I know a number of members here did backups of available AOpen ftps while they were still up (sure someone will chime in with details).

In the meantime, the HelpDrivers site seems to have have downloads available for the XC Cube EZ65, including a number of BIOS updates as far as version R1.22...let us know if these are any help to you - https://www.helpdrivers.com/desktops/Aopen/XC_Cube/EZ65/

The AOpen UX4XG-1394 motherboard itself is also over on https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/aopen-ux4sg-1394 if that helps at all.
