My problem is that everything works fine (installation, main menu, ...) but when I start the first level (klick on the level on the world map) I see the Loading screen but nothing happens. I got original Cd (not gold edition) and Windows Vista 64 bit. My processor is pretty strong I usually never had problems with a game.

I recognized that in the background DOSBox Status says:

CONFIG: Loading primary settings from config file doxbox.conf
MIDI: Opened device:win32
Illegal read from 51ae778, CS:IP 160: 281f32
Illegal read from 51afb74, CS:IP 160: 281f32
..............
Illegal write to 2bc99b2, CS:IP 160: 26e859
Illegal write to 2bc99b3, CS:IP 160: 26e859
..............

there is more read and write, anyone has an idea what I could do to play this classic?

I was able to solve the problem: The source of the problem was that the CD was pretty old. I created an image of it, mounted it with daemon tools, and mounted that drive at DOSBOX. Now it works!

Yeah, the game works fine in DOSBox - but why don't you use the D3D version? Runs fine in XP, don't know about Vista though.

I don't own that version. Is it free? Is it a patch for the original? Where do I get it?

Thanks!

It's an official, free patch/upgrade for the original Dungeon Keeper. Just Google for "dungeon keeper d3d" oder "dungeon keeper direct3d", you should be able to find it easily. I used to play this version on XP, and it worked great (though there are some small problems, like to game UI being "oversensitive").

Found that patch. But it keeps telling me it doesnt find dungeon keeper, i should install it first although I point the installation manager to the correct folder ... Well maybe it's not compatible with my version. I will have to keep playing software graphics =)

Maybe your cd is broken? Be sure you try to create a cd image with some
app that checks+reports physical defects of the cdrom.

Yes but verify that the app doesn't just skip sectors it can't read but reports
them or aborts the process so you know the cd is bad.

Hi !

First of all I would like to say that I'm french, so my english isn't going to be perfect. I just hope that you gonna understand my problem :p

I have the same problem than Decoyaut. I downloaded an ISO of DK, I created a CD image with it and installed the game through DOSbox (thanks to the explanations of an other website ^^).
I seemed to me that I had done everything perfectly.
I loaded the game through Dosbox and everything went ok, until I tried loading the first level. The loading seems to never end ... And there is all this writting with "illegal read, illegal write ..."
Should I modify the dosbox.conf ? Should I change some other settings ?
I have Windows Vista.

I read on a website a possible solution, but it's not clear enough for me (I'm really stupid when it comes to computers), should I apply it ? Here it is :

"Note: Some people have contacted me and told me of problems with emulation. They suggest modifying the "dosbox.conf" file further to include setting "output=overlay". Also, avoid the settings "core=auto" and "cycles=auto", as apparantly these can cause problems. Instead, set "core=dynamic" instead. These may help solve some issues people are having. If it's working for you, then don't muck about with the settings. However, if it isn't, then try changing some things, it might help."

Buy the game. You won't get support for warez here.

Is not ISO of a CD = CD image? 😐
