Hi everyone, I have a 3dfx Voodoo Banshee PCI with v1.00.03-SD VBIOS.
I want to update to latest 1.00.10-SD but all tools I tried give me the same error:
Unknown flash EEPROM manufacturer (Man. ID: C2h, Dev. ID: AAh)

According to some IAs the chip is:
Manufacturer ID: C2h → Macronix (MX)
Device ID: AAh → MX29F002 or MX29LV002 (or similar 256KB / 2Mbit).

Tried USERFLASH, FLASH 2.14 and 2.17 from Here: https://3dfxbios.cl-rahden.de/index.php?title=Flash-Tools
All give me same error.

Card specs:
Gainward Dragon 4000
Part Number (P/N): 9816-52A
FCC ID: ICUVGA-GW816DP

Help?

Do you experience any issues with the original BIOS?
If not, then I would suggest to leave it alone 😀

I prefer to update all my devices to latest bios/firmware/driver. I recently upgraded a PCChips M598LMR with latest bios and now it's stable (it wasn't before) and supports big HDDs. So updating fixes or improves stuff. And also, because I like it 😀

Never used those flashers before but according to that site you linked:

3dfx Flash is the successor of USERFLSH and based on its code. Version 1.xx can be used for flashing Voodoo Banshee graphic cards.
For newer cards (Voodoo3+) only version 2.xx should be used. For flashing the newest prototypes (Daytona) you must use the newest version since the needed support was added with version 2.16.

Looks like you should try Version 1.01, 1.03 or 1.04 of the flashing tool

Looks like there are plenty of Bios to flash just need to pick the correct version to flash it to depending on type of vram and signal output type https://theretroweb.com/expansioncards/s/gain … dex-dragon-4000

Edit: Looks like SDRAM PCI / unknown PAL or NTSC
Might be able to try the bios listed: SDRAM PCI (without signal type)

I would backup Bios on it before flashing
Most Gainward Dragon 4000 I find online have a different manufacturer bios chip but I did see one other with MX bios chip

Looking up Gainward Dragon 4000 I have seen 3 different bios chips

MX 28F1000PQC-12C4 chip its a 1 Megabit / 128K x 8 5volt only (one you have)
SST 29EE010 chip its a 1 Megabit / 128K x 8 5volt only
Atmel AT29C010A chip its a 1 Megabit / 128K x 8 5volt only

Oh my, you're running that thing without a heatsink? I would say heatsink+fan is mandatory for the Banshee. It does get incredibly hot.
