This is the most modern build yet. Will be a classic in about 6nyears or so.

It s a core I7 3rd gen, 3770k, with a very nice gigabyte z77z ud5h mobo, 32 gb ram ddr 3 and a 980ti.

Most of the components are brand new, including ram, psu ssd s and hdd.

And boy, does it have some storage. 4 drives in total. 2 sdds, 1 msata and hdd for about 4tb total.

Evn more funny, because it runs windows 10,most modern things work. And for it s age, in normal tasks like Internet, YouTube, movies, etc, it s just like a normal modern pc.

Games wise, obviously will jot play latest games but it does OK in most pre 2020 titles.

Aaa... And forgot to mention the sound card, a sb x fi fatality...

The case is a corsair carbide 4000 full tower

So you are too early for this post.
In 6 years, it would be quite good !

Dual boot with XP, then it's retro!

I made a similar machine BTW, but dual booted Linux and XP. XP for retro gaming, Linux for Web Browsing. Could possibly put Windows 10 on it too though to play GOG games on. Since Windows 10 is out of support, I don't really want it on the Internet

Why are you surprised?
Windows 10 runs perfectly even on Socket 775.
The 3770K supports SSE4 and AVX, so Windows 11 25Н2 will run perfectly on it too.
Of course, it doesn’t support TPM 2.0. But that’s not a problem for most people.

Ah, i thought you were aiming for some kind of "it was like this in 2015" type of build, still cool though

dual boot with linux, windows vista,7,8 ! actually just 10 +linux, with this beast of a machine older OSes can be on VMs and any game issues can usually be solved anyway

it's funny that windows 10 is teetering a few years away from becoming a kind of "retro" now! 😀

I don't want to be on of those "negative Nancy" people here, but I don't think Windows 10 will ever become retro. (Of course, I don't mind if ever I get proven wrong - just writing this for the future. 😉 )
IDK, the whole "it's all online and always trying to log-you-in" "theme" of Windows 10 simply seems to exclude it from becoming retro. I feel like it would be more like modern online-only games, where once the manufacturer "pulls the plug" on the authentication server or whatever "kill switch" the game might have built-in, the whole thing just disappears into the abyss. Granted Windows 10 is not exactly like that (at least not the early versions / ISOs.) But I'm still not holding my breath for it to remain like that. As for Windows 11 - certainly NO.

Also, FWIW, O/P's future "retro" rig is newer / more powerful than my newest "modern" PC. 🤣

P.S.: FWIW x2, I still don't have a "modern" enough PC that is able to do 720p @ 60 FPS on Fortnite in 100% render scale (even in the now-deprecated DX11 performance mode.)
Oi! I really am far behind "the curve". 😁

Nice system and i bet a lot of effort went into building it! However, IMHO, I do not think it will ever become retro! At least for me retro means classic BIOS so the cutoff date is 2010 and while is fully compatible with XP you installed Windows 10 which will never be retro.
