Greetings to all retro pc enthusiasts out there!
I`m having really hard time making PATA and SATA hd`s working on one computer well. I run dual boot system 98 SE and XP SP3. On second everything works fine, but in 98 SE as soon i install XP it shows warning message that it sees 32 bit drivers from other devices (it only do that when i have SATA hd connected at the same time). I creates werid bug after i restart computer that i cant see my CD reader at all, it just disappears. When i turn off SATA the nothing changes, so it permanently do the damage.
I tried numerous times to sort of evade the problem but its persistent and matter what methods i use it just hates to see it. Other then that OS runs fine, but i need CD reader for some games and sometimes it asks to put 98 SE for update of some drivers, etc.

Is there any way i can do something to fix this? Ive installed 98 SE on PATA, and XP on Sata hd.
My motherboard is ASUS p5vd2-vm and it has official motherboard drivers for both systems.
CPU is Core 2 Duo 4500 2.4ghz if memory serves me well, and 1GB of ddr400mhz RAM.

I can install everything on one PATA hd but i want to make SP3 tiny bit faster with SATA Hd.

Kidn regards, Dado.

Re: [Win98SE] Drives are in MS-DOS compatibility mode, but why?

Use this to remove the NOIDE entry from registry, this should get some part of the problem reverted.

You are likely going to need R.Loew's patched driver for having SATA and PATA drives coexisting.

So thats it. Well i will try it someday, i got tired of constantly reinstalling the 98 SE recently. But i`ll try the fixes and patched driver. Thanks for let me know. If i screw somewhere i`ll write back here to ask for more directions to people who already did these changes and had success.
Thanks for let me know.

The best results I've had with 9x operating systems and sata ssd drives is by using startech sata to ide adaptors and promise ide controllers. I don't use any sata on the motherboards in my retro machines.

There's a million and one of those things, the Startech IDE2SAT2 model is very reliable in my experience.

I`ll try my luck with Ali Express. 😀
