This will test the most hardcore gamer, as the game was clearly made by a group of friends and was not released by a company. I will point out main things I remember, as well as 2 sketches. You will laugh your head off at me, but bear with me.
Before I begin, it is NOT Kings Quest, although they definitely got a lot of their ideas from it.
It was basic graphics, looked like it was made in paint / looked very Chips Challenge style at times. You had to click around the screen or move the knight character to certain areas to find a 'key' that would let you move to the next area in a like drag and drop way. I genuinely remember the first image, of a river and a bridge, and the graphics weren't much better! I remember you found the key behind the hedge eventually by clicking on it. Year of release I am guessing mid 90s.
I feel like I got it from a demo disc / floppy supplied with a computer, maybe linking me to a home made games site or something which is how I got into it.
The second image I remember they were promoting the sequel on their website and obviously had some humour saying the graphics were going to be out of this world, when it was just a little shading used instead of solid block colours from the release I played.
Not definite so don't base your search around this, but I am sure the game had a ridiculous name like 'Barry the Knight', but I am only putting this in case it is on the right track and someone else may remember.
They had a website, and it was definitely home made and a group of about 4/5 guys making it. It must of had some kind of fan base, as they had a website - although it wasn't hard to throw up a website in the 90s, and it is one of those things that has genuinely been on my mind since I was 8 - I am 40 in the next few years! Let's kick this pig!
People have suggested Castle On The Winds - it is not the game as the makers are too mainstream, but the graphic style is almost identical, just a tiny bit higher quality and neater than the game I am looking for. It was in a Windows box though within your screen.
This game was also free - I am sure it was on a CD that came with one of the desktops. But then because it was clearly just a few makers doing it for fun, it is freeware / homebrew / shareware. Maybe I saw it on Geocities? God knows.
This is a one in a billion chance and I have tried all over the internet....this is my last hope! I would actually offer a cash prize for anyone who finds it!
Cheers!
