Hello all,

Well I have some good news for you 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP 16MB users/owners, as that I did some useful research last night, it's that some time ago I bought a M1-DA to VGA convertor cable and thought to put this thing to use, the VGA connector is male so to solve that I used a VGA/SVGA DB15 D-SUB 15 Pin 3 Rows Female To Female Mini Gender Changer Adapter on it's male 15 pin D-Sub connector, that way I could connect the CRT to it and presto this worked!

The image quality is fine to around 1600x1200, I have 1024x768x32 and yea no issues at all, bottom line is that is much less strain on the 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP's M1-DA connector, this is my goal so I wont have to use that horrible blue 3dfx IO Pod anymore 😎

So I bought this M1-DA to Male VGA Convertor cable on ebay in China for around 23 Euros incl shipping from China to Netherlands, it may not seem great, but it's much better than even I had expected, it fits very easily, no need to bend out the shielding of the 40+5 pinned M1-DA connector on the cable, it fits easily.

But hey it's a solution right! So with this you won't have to overpay yourselves for a Voodoo3 3500C + TV-Out Compaq board, so I thought to at least test this and see what it does and post it here as it does actually work!

Also you don't need to use the extra USB connector that comes with it, just the heads up for those wondering.

All working as it should do and just letting other Voodoo 3 3500 TV AGP owners know that this methods works very well and can be seen as a low cost solution as well and with this ideal solution you won't have to use this horrid large and heavy blue 3dfx IO Pod anymore:

Here some pics I made, after searching for this card for more than 10 years, all worth the patience in the end, I added my 1971 Lufthansa B747-230B the D-ABYD named: "Baden-Württemberg" with the R6 card I bought from my friend from Voodoo Alert Forums, Germany, to fit that scene, this also being the first Radeon AGP with 64MB 128Bi t DDR, I thought to match it with Lufthansa's first B747-200B sporting the Lufthansa Sunrise Delivery Livery from 1970 and my ATi hat, even tho I will try to find a better one, this one will just have to do for now:

in May I will try and give this system a 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 PCI 16MB SDRAM, if I can find one for a decent deal, Voodoo Alert will come to my aid maybe, I'll see what I can do with that, as for the CPU the Athlon 700 is a bit on the slow side for that R6, so an Athlon 850 or 900Mhz Thunderbird Slot A CPU will be what I'll be seeking as well, yea just gotta find the right parts to fine tune this system correctly, all within time of course.

Hello everyone, sorry for not being that active, I had a rough time with the passing of a close family member, it did take me some time to get back in to it again.
But finally I was able to upgrade the Slot A build to something far more proper, I added the following parts just to perfect the system and make it more optimized for it's timeline of Mid 2000.

Here I set the CPU voltage from 1.75 volts to1.60 volts and ran Prime95 Torture test for 9 hours and 7 minutes, all tests were passed and no errors were reported:

Here a test out of curiosity at 1.55 Volts, at first I was like haha! this won't last long, but surprisingly the system ran Prime95 Torture Test for 2 hours and 6 minutes, passing all tests and also no reported errors, this did impress me that my K7 TB 900 has a very high quality die:

But when I wanted to reboot, just because why not, the system hanged and the monitor went black, so after turning off the system and discharging the PSU and then turning it on and going back to the Bios I set the CPU back to 1.60v and all is great again, I played Star Wars Dark Forces II Jedi Knight for a good 4 hours flat with the ATi Radeon AGP 64MB 128Bit DDR ViVo Retail @ 1024x768x32 + FSAA x4 & AF x16 without any issues a nice heavy test but it ran the game like no tomorrow.

So yea this did prove me that with the CPU voltage set to 1.60volts that the system is stable under all workloads, this will make the CPU less hot under long term work loads and this also helps put less strain on the +5 Volt Rail of the Power Supply Unit, well as how I was informed.
This hobby does help my mental state a lot, it helps me focus on positive things more 😎

Hey all,

It's tie for something new and different , well from my end anyway, as I never was able to experience the Pentium 4 done right, the Northwood series of CPU's were by far the ebst i heard and read about, there were three different Northwoods that are these:

Northwood A 512KB L2 & 400Mhz FSB No Extreme Editions for this one
Northwood B 512KB L2 & 533Mhz FSB No Extreme Editions for this one
Northwood C 512KB L2 & 800Mhz FSB Extreme Editions came @ 3.2Ghz & 2.4Ghz with 512KB L2 and 2MB L3

So the one I went with was the last generation of Northwood which is the Northwood C, most of the needed items I already have, this is a build log for this new build and yes I will run my V5 PCI Mac in this build as well, should give that card the CPU speed it needs.

As for the mainboard Richard from x-3dfx helped me finding the one of the best OC boards of all time, which is the following:

There are Rev 2.00's, that I am very aware of, but these were too damn expensive so I went with this one, which seems to have been either well cared for or even recapped, well by the looks of it.
Even so I'd happily send this mainboard to Backfire for a Würth recap, such things can't hurt it I'd think.

The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (released in 2003) featured hardware F-Buffer (Fragment Stream FIFO) technology. This on-chip memory buffer allowed the GPU to execute pixel and fragment shaders of near-unlimited length without the severe performance loss traditionally caused by multi-pass rendering

Yet I may need help finding me a pair of 2x 1GB Corsair XMS Platinum PC-4400, this is DDR 275Mhz DDR1 memory or say 550Mhz DDR per stick, I know it exists, but it seems to be very difficult to find.

My 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 PCI 32MB is now a 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 PCI Macintosh 32MB with PC Bios 1.18 DVI on it which went through the following reworks all done by Backfire from Voodoo Alert Forums, Germany

That was slightly different that planned, however we both agreed to keep it at 32MB, as the ram on board works fine and 32MB is plenty for 3dfx Glide games anyway.
For the rest the Caps are sealed polymer capacitors by Würth, can't go wrong with that either.
This card will be my secondary graphics card alongside my Ati Radeon 8500 AGP 64MB 128Bit DDR in the Dual P3/EB 1Ghz build.

While the Voodoo4 4500 PCI was being worked on I also picked up my first ever GeForce FX graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra by XFX Pine Group with Dual DVI-I and S-Video ViVo, the complete package.

These cards were powered by the NVIDIA NV36-A1 GPU, this was the heart of the FX 5700 Ultra and these cards perform on par with the NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti-4600, the Geforce FX by design uses the 2D core of the ever released 3dfx Specter series of graphics cards that would of used the 3dfx VSA-200 Rampage 200 Graphics chips in combination with 3dfx Sage TL Geometry chips.

The 3dfx Specter 3000 AGP 128MB 256Bit DDR would of performed on par with a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra / GeForce 4 Ti 4600 as it came to DX 8.1 the same for OpenGL performance, so to simulate the Specter 3000 at it's best the FX 5700 Ultra is the closest thing to it as it comes to it using the Rampage 2D core and 3D features of the Rampage 2000 chip as well, this is also ideal for 3dfx Glide emulation with Zeckensack's Glide Emulator, of course a real 3dfx card is better butby usinga Geforce FX and that emulator it's the closest you'll ever get to the real 3dfx Glide.

So here my card that I bought for a nice deal of 120 Euro's incl shipping from Germany to the Netherlands:

The drivers I am currently using are the NVIDIA ForceWare 84.21 WHQL; this driver I used with all GeForce cards from the GeForce 256 to the GeForce 6800 Ultra, all cards run stable with it, and they may be faster drivers, but stability has always been the main priority of importance during my test runs.

Here all the control Panel tabs and settings, what I did do is adjust the Digital Vibrance & Saturation by 14%, so this card's image quality output comes close to that of an ATi Radeon 9800 Pro, ATi always had a sharper image but adjusting those two settings on your GeForce card and you can get very close.

Here some test runs I did with this card and system in Mad Onion's 3D mark 200 & 2001 SE B330.
both using 1024x768 in 16 and 32 bit color modes and all tests with Triple Buffering Enabled, oddly 3D mark 2000 has this disabled by default and 2001 SE has it enabled, so I Enabled it in all tests for a more fair outcome.
And I don't know why that was like that, but yea here goes:

Once testing is done the Matrox Parhelia AGP 256MB DDR and the Voodoo5 5500 PCI Macintosh 64MB SDR will return back to this system.

As for my graphics card collection that XFX Pine Group Geforce FX 5700 Ultra is my 35th graphics card, my collection has been growing quite well the past few years

It's contents will always change, I also use it to store and display card I don't use for a certain time, that way it's contents will always be different over time, and variation makes it more appealing as well.

After that the package arrive d back from Germany here the Voodoo4 4500 PCI Macintosh to what the card was modified to from a regular Voodoo4 4500 PCI:

Reworked, Modified & Recapped by Backfire from Voodoo Alert Forums, Germany.
This card was made during week 33 of year 2000, it was reworked by Backfire on August 29 during week 35 of 2026, a good 26 years and 2 weeks after this card was built.

Here the card in the system I chose to use it for, which was the better outcome, this AthlonXP 2200+ will get more performance out of the V4 PCI mac than the Dual P3/EB 1000 to where I moved the V5 PCI Mac to, just a better way to balance things out more evenly.
