I found this very interesting thread - I've got a `diamond Monster 3D PCI 4MB, Voodoo 1 which was not being recognized.
As mentioned, re-flowing the (very oxidized) pins of both FBI and TMU made it detectable. However, the TMU is still nowhere to be seen, it shows as "dead" as in the screenshot above.

I've re-reflowed the TMU, checked the connections between FBI and TMU with my multimeter, checked all resistor/resistor pack/inductor on the board (though I checked on the component itself) and I cannot find anything out of the ordinary. Of course I checked and re-checked the FBI/TMU legs under the microscope.

I've inspected for damage and I see none.

If I understand correctly the TMU is only connected to the FBI and the RAM so if the FBI is being detected, then I don't need to worry about the PCI connection? Though I checked every single gold finger as I could see a little corrosion and I thought maybe one of them was disconnected.

Any ideas?

Just adding some extra diagnostic, I've probed both FBI and TMU RAM chips in diode/resistance mode and I haven't seen anything suspicious. In fact, one TMU RAM module showed KiloOhm on some pins (when everything else was MegaOhm) but then I realised the FBI has one chip with similar values so I'd imagine that's expected.

There is a Diamond 3Dfx Voodoo 1 and an A-Trend Helios 3D ATC-2465 Voodoo 1 card.

Neither card displayed any image at all, then I did the following:

- Reflowed the FBI and TMU chips, then checked under a microscope that there are no shorts between the pins.
- Replaced all FBI and TMU memories with tested, fully working memories.
- Measured all resistors to verify that they have the correct values.
- There are no damaged PCB traces or shorted pins.
- The latest official driver is installed.

Test configuration: SS7 motherboard, Pentium I MMX 166 MHz + 384 MB RAM.

Both cards produce the error shown in the picture.

What could be causing this error? Faulty TMU chip?
