This is kind of subjective. Specswise it looks like a fairly authentic setup, other than the HDD having been swapped for a much larger model (systems this old wouldn't have had an 8 GB HDD, much less 80 GB!). RAM is also clearly maxed out from a "period correct" 16-32 MB. That's fine. For me what's not really on the paper matters a lot here. Is the case tidy and well kept, or is it dented, scratched and yellowed, etc. Are there other novel features? Is a monitor included?

People were giving systems like this away not long ago, so the fact that someone is asking for $100 means they've either caught on to the fact that they're considered collectible now by some, or it's a person who's actually held on to the system and has a personal investment in it. I'd rather buy from the latter type than the former.

In the end whether it's worth the asking price comes down to how badly you want one now. I guarantee if you wait you'll come across something like it practically for free, from someone who just forgot to get rid of theirs. So in that sense the system is definitely not worth a $100.

Also, I wouldn't trade the GPU to a Trio/Virge. The Rage II is just as well, unless you have a very specific game that's incompatible for some reason (like your Commander Keen or something).

The system overall looks well-maintained and the case was whitened (Retrobright). Only the case with the parts is being sold, so nothing else apart from that.

I don't think the seller has any sentimental value attached to it as he sells 2 other retro builds. So more than likely it was built to be resold.

Sounds pretty good - relative to the current "market" it's "reasonably" priced.
The big hard disk may come in handy if you're a software hoarder.

It's a very basic setup good for many things. The price is fine if you're not looking for an investment.

Do you get an AT case with a Baby AT system like this these days?

The question should be what value do you expect out of it? What do you intend to run on it?

If you've been messing with emulation and are ready to go to a physical machine you should be able to have a good amount of fun with that system. Don't forget a keyboard and mouse. CL-GD5446 2MB (four memory chips) or CL-GD5464 4MB are also good 2D PCI cards.

This is exactly the kind of rig the early Voodoos were targeted at, but prices of those cards are stupid now.

If the case is in good condition, it's probably worth it.

I'd also be curious if that particular Gigaboard motherboard has turbo switch functionality. It's rare on Socket 7 / Pentium boards, but a number of the Gigabyte motherboards retained that functionality.

Luckily, a 200 MHz Pentium (non MMX) is about enough for the DOS-based Voodoo 1 emulator (3Dfx Emulator v0.2).
It's not exactly ideal solution if someone plans to aquire a period-correct setup, but it seems to work good enough in some games.
It might be a solution if someone has just a couple of favorite 3dfx games.
That being said, I have little experience with Voodoo graphics.
I used to be more of a 2D person, some exceptions like Descent aside.
