Has anyone managed to set up the sound in Dune II like this:

The attachment Dune2.PNG is no longer available

so that the music is played on the MT-32, the sounds and effects are played on the SC-55, and the voices are played on the SBPRO? If so, could you please share and explain more about it? What do I need to do? What port should the MT-32 be on, and what port should the SC-55 be on? What should be written in the line "SET BLASTER="?

I noticed that the installer does not offer to manually assign ports for each device individually, and the game uses the same port 330 for both the MT-32 and the SC-55, as well as port 388 if ADLIB is selected. Is it necessary to modify the game's executable or configuration files, or is there a different approach to achieve this result (if it is achievable)? Thank you!

there is a patch you need to use multiple sound sources. I know you can use mt32 for music and SB for effects+speach. not sure about 3 devices.
with 2, it uses a lot more base memory, with 3 I doubt you have enough base ram to run it properly. it also wont run if you have more than 16mb of ram.

If he was able to select a different sound device for each, this means it's already the patched version... The challenge is to actually change ports for any MIDI modules. I am pretty sure the games assumes it's 330 for both the MT-32 and SC55. So yeah, you most probably have to modify the EXE since there are no DRV file for each sound device that you could more easily modify.

The memory problem is specific to the amount of EMS, not total RAM in the system... I use "EMM386.exe RAM 8096" on a 64mb system and the game works fine.

Yes, you're right, this is the "1.0" version of the game (US release) with the official sound patch applied. I've managed to set up ADLIB+SC55+SBPRO, and it works (because ADLIB uses port 388 and SC55 uses port 330). Now, I need to find a way to replace ADLIB with MT32 in this setup.

It seems the game has only a single MIDI port definition, I doubt the game creators ever envisioned that someone would have both an MT-32 and SC-55 connected to a computer at the same time. So someone would have to go through the effort of modifying the game's executable file to render music and sound effects to independent ports.
