Hi, this is my first post, i love all DOS games, and this game is not the exception, but i cant make it work in DOSBOX, i have the install disk and do all the process, when i try to run it, displays something like this:

"Hardware reconfigured, Error 999"

Maybe its some like lethal weapon with the paths or maybe its something like the drive A working together with C, like monkey island 1, but i have no other ideas, can someone help me?

Thank you so much from México City.

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Ok this is the procedure:
1) this game is the diskette version, so i mount the executable install.exe in drive a and mount drive c for install the game in my physical drive c, all the instalation is fine and the program makes the path c:\BRUCELEE
2) after that, i remove the mounted drives and now mount c:\BRUCELEE in c like this: mount c c:\BRUCELEE and the execute the file BRUCE.exe.
3) then displays the "software toolworks" screen, after that, the main bruce lee fall of the hong kong palace screen and after that, the game crash and exit displaying the error: Hardware reconfigured, Error 999, reinstall Bruce Lee lives.
so i don't understand whats wrong, maybe is something like lethal weapon, if you dont install it from a drive a mounted, the game never works.

Any idea? i'm still trying more options, but i can't make it work

You should try to read my guide - ALL OF IT - and follow it.

I think that what MiniMax wants to tell you is that you've changed your mounting, and that's the problem.
You mounted C: as C: to install Bruce Lee. To run the game, you should mount C: as C:, so that C:\BRUCELEE exists.
However, it's safer to create a special "GAMES" directory (or any name that you like), and mount that as C: before both installing and running.

ok, after reading MiniMax guide, i have still the problem, here is the step followed by me:
1) bruce lee installation disc is located in my dvd rom with this path:

e:\bruce_lee

so i mount my dvd rom drive as drive a, because the game is a floppy version, and compressed for work like that.
After that i create a folder in c called abandonware, so i mount drive c like this:

mount c c:\abandonware

then i write a: and then run install.exe, the game was installed without a problem, so i change to drive c:, typing this:

c:
cd brucelee
and after that run the executable of the game bruce.exe

the game starts, and after that, same problem of hardware reconfigured.
Any ideas?

The problem is some anti-debugging code, which checksums the video memory and UMBs. Since DOSBox uses the UMB in ways that aren't quite the same as DOS, the checksum never matches.
You'll need a patch to fix that. It's just one byte. Check my site tomorrow, it might be there.

Maybe fix the dosbox umb handling rather than putting up a hundred small tsrs for game-specific stuff...

That's a nice idea, but at this point it's still quicker to patch the game.

The patch is available from my site. Unzip the files into the same directory as where you installed the game, then run brucefix.com (instead of bruce.exe) each time you want to play. The game will load normally.

The game checks something in the memory, and finds a different value from what it expects. I don't know why it's different, so the patch simply disables the check. It's something to investigate later. :-)

Couldn't get it to work. Does the patch work with all versions of the game?

What do you mean that you couldn't get it to work?
What happened when you tried it?
