TURRICAN II – The final fight
This game is an Amiga original – and arguably one of the best games ever made for the platform. It was later released for many other platforms including a DOS version which plays great and re-releases (Switch, PS) to this day. The game was released in a cardboard big box formfactor, but as with many other Amiga games – the box is actually much smaller (ca 18 x 15 x 3 cm) than classic PC-Big Boxes. The greatest addition of the original release (besides floppy disk manual and registration card) is a large poster showing the Mech suit in action on a heap of HR Giger inspired alien corpses.
The game opens with a long cheesy Sci-Fi Cartoon scene (looks a bit like Captain Future ?) before putting you into the Mech to battle all sorts of Aliens. Gameplay is great fast and most of the time the screen looks like fireworks with powerups different weapons and even with space ship shooter sections. A lot of details resemble the original Metroid (including a morph ball like feature) but everything is more busy and vibrant. If you are looking for a great run and gun platformer and never tried it – this game is peak Amiga awesomeness.
AND FINALLY: The soundtrack
Don’t listen on your phone, or on any kind of flimsy speaker! This tune deserves your best stereo equipment (if you have easy neighbors) or your best headphone - and have a listen…
