I have TIE Fighter CD (1995 Collectors Edition) and am trying to play with an MS Sidewinder 1 stick.

The game installs fine and I can play it in DOS without issue, but I’m not sure how to use the stick with it in this scenario?

The Sidewinder software has profiles for TIE Fighter built-in, but I have problems launching Tie.exe under Windows 98. The very first time I ran it, it loaded, but every subsequent boot gives the famous ‘Stack overflow’ error. I set Stacks=9, 256 in Config.says and it made no difference.

What’s the best way to get this set-up working? Also, haven’t tried it yet, but will I have the same issues with X-Wing?

It's a USB joystick. It does not work with DOS games, not even from a DOS prompt. It only works with Windows games.

There was a TIE-Fighter Special Edition for Windows that the profile is probably for.

DOS games have no comprehension of USB so they are looking for a joystick at a different address.

To get a joystick working with the DOS version of TIE-Fighter, you'll need one with a 15pin joystick port. And you'll need to have a joystick port as well.

It’s not USB, that’s version 2. This connects via a game port. Regardless, I have since been reading it still doesn’t like working in DOS anyway so I’ll try a different option.

I use that same stick for playing the original xwing in DOS on my 486. Did you install the drivers and run the set up? If it runs in dos why arey ou trying to run it from win 98?
