I'm trying to get 5.1 surround sound in GTA III and GTA VC, original discs, in Windows XP.
I have an X-Fi Titanium (Game Mode) connected to a 5.1 receiver via 3x AUX to dual RCA cables on the EXT. IN input. My Windows speaker setup is "5.1 surround sound speakers".
Sound settings in both games are EAX3 and "More than 2 speakers".
The problem: when I launch a game, I get no sound in the intro logo/movie. When I get to the main menu, I have sound again, but the windows speaker setup is changed to "Quadraphonic speakers". I get sound out of l/r front and l/r back, but nothing out of the center channel or sub.
If I alt-tab out of the game in progress and change the speaker setup back to "5.1 surround sound speakers," it does not change anything. But if I change the setting to "5.1 surround sound speakers" from the main menu before starting a game, it works great.
My ask: Can anyone reproduce this on their setup? Is anyone successful running 5.1 in Windows XP for these games without the rigmarole?
Thanks!
