Thanks for this thread, i got a physical heavy damaged CT2910 card, but the YMF289-B and YAC516 looked fine on it and with help of this thread i was able to solder them to my CT2950 and it worked on the first attempt.
Many thanks!!!!

Anyone who says CQM is bad needs to try Tempest 2000 msdos version. The new dosbox staging/x now has CQM emulation as an option.

In particular, the level 1 tune sounds much better on a CQM card than a genuine Yamaha.

Ah yes, CQM is not bad because ...*checks notes*... one track from an Atari Jaguar port happens to sound better on it than it does on a genuine OPL3 to one person.
It does sound good in that track, don't get me wrong, but CQM is very flawed, there is a reason people dislike it.

This can happen because people composing stuff can not realise they don't have a real opl3 in their sound blaster. This is really the only case i know of, though.

I do understand why it is disliked. it totally screws up a fair amount of stuff.

what is very flawed? i have a AWE64 and i dont find any game, program, etc that sound bad

Even i do for example YM2612/YM2610 conversions to OPL3, that i need to follow the datasheet, and really sound the same in my AWE64 or a opl3 card, of course every card have some differences, more clear, more noise, but beside this, I cant tell much if any diference

CQM is well known to be an entire octave too high at times.

The classic example is Supaplex.

and the waveforms are not the same either. often they are close enough (cqm does doom fm pretty good, by all counts), but the video i linked reveals significant differences. unlike say supaplex, which we know cqm gets wrong, this actually sounded better.
