Hi everyone,
I'm trying to identify the exact original source of a file named DEMO.MID. I extracted it directly from an official Olidata OEM Recovery Disk for Windows ME, which was built using the SoftThinks Master CD / Installation System tool.
Since it is embedded within the SoftThinks recovery environment, I am trying to figure out where it originally came from—whether it was a standard test file bundled by SoftThinks itself, or if it belongs to an old 90s MIDI sequencer bundle (like Cakewalk or Voyetra), an audio driver test file, or a specific OEM multimedia application.
To give you an idea of the kind of historical file tracing I am doing, it's the same logic where:
• TEST.AVI comes from the Windows 95 promo video animated by Bill Plympton.
• TEST.MPG is the 3-second "Flight of the Dream Team" video from XingMPEG Player.
• TEST.MOV is the QuickTime calibration video.
• DEMO16.WAV is the car ignition sound from the Creative Sound Blaster software bundle.
I uploaded a video recording of how this specific DEMO.MID sounds to YouTube so you can listen to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jtYlOuNE4E
Does anyone recognize this track, or do you have any archives of old SoftThinks master disks to check if this was a universal test file used by their installer software?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
