-Super Socket 7 is okay, socket 5 is allowed
-AGP motherboards are allowed
-Dual GFX is allowed
-pci to agp/pcie adapters are allowed. (Though I may regret this haha)
-Onboard GFX doesn’t count
-ISA gfx… um. If you figure out how to get 3dm2000 running, you win the thread. Period.. 🤣

AGP slot must be empty or not in use for gfx.

I have a number of builds that are kinda late in the socket 5/7 scene and it comes up from time to time that these motherboards might not have AGP or for whatever reason, the agp isn’t being used for gfx or maybe the AGP is annoyingly unstable, whatever the reason..

example my MVP4 build doesn’t have agp. Or maybe I decide to use an agp to PCI adapter to run a storage card at 66 mhz (I still need to try that 🤣, I have the adapter) anyway for whatever reason, I thought it would be cool to see what creative setups the community was able to come up with for socket 5/7/ss7 systems that had PCI GFX and who can get the highest score on 3dm2000

Oooh. I intend to enter a suped up S5. If only to give everyone a baseline 😁.

Can you specify precisely which benches make the comparison sphere? From screenshot I presume just 3DM2k?

Post whatever benches you want, but just be sure to have a 3dm 2000 in there at minimum 😀 (ideally)

Diggin the crusty celeron in the avatar and Screen Name haha

When I get back to my retro hardware I’m hoping to beat that score.

What’s really interesting is that that score nearly ties my radeon 9800 pro score on a ss7 system.

My new secret weapon to try is a pci radeon 9100 🤫 along with some new ram tricks that I figured out..

Okay fine I’ll share.

Mvp3/4 if cache is 2mb it gets 2 single sided 256 sticks

If it’s 1mb it gets 2 128mb single sided sticks.

My previous strategy was to do three sticks.

From my looking around and researching it seems that this is the sweet spot for 1/2mb on mvp3 a little unclear how well it stacks up on mvp4 but the memory speed numbers I got the last time I fired up my mvp4 were unreal. I’m actually thinking that I may be able to get some even better numbers than above, making it even faster than my 9800 pro ss7 setup

MVP4 socket 7 aiming for the stars!

Having seen where a new member got his TX chipset board to run @ 600 MHz, I need to investigate if the clock gen on my TXP4 can also do this. Both the clock speed and FSB increase could potentially push it over 3,000 points.

A lot of times when you first start out on a project you think, This is never going to be finished. But then it is, and you think, Wow, it wasn't even worth it. - Jack Handey

That was an MSI MS-5158 TX5 ATX form board IIRC, I am kinda hoping the MS-5156 TX4 is it's AT twin, as that's the one I have. Unfortunately not unknown to have clock gens vary by revision even in single model, so gotta cross my fingers. I know my Octek TX used to keep up with MVP3 and ALI systems with them having V3 AGPs and me having V3 PCI at same CPU speeds (450 K6-2 at the time) because the owners of such would always claim I was lying about my benches when I tried to compare on 1999-early 2000s forums.

Edit: whoops, comment didn't really go anywhere. Well what I was intending to say was that if this winter is "quiet" for me, I should be able to set that one up and join in later.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
