There is no such subdirectory on the cd.

which explains the

then

what's in dosinst.bat

what happens in d: if you tipe : dir

where would install.bat be

what's the contents of install.bat

after mount d e:\ -t cdrom -noioctl
did you see a message stating something like cdrom drive mounted as drive d:

are sure your installation files are complete

good (not quite 😉 )

now what's in that dosinst.bat ?

atldos is an exe
there's no atl_dos subdir anyhow

of course
D:\>cd \atl_dos
won't work, I'd be surprised if it did

where did install.bat go ?

The good part :
mount seems fine

P.S.
read the readme

dosinst.bat

cd \atl_dos
install.bat

there doesn't seem to be a install.bat file.

?

dosinst.bat

cd \atl_dos
install.bat

?

yep, that corresponds to your earlier report (about what happened as you kicked dosinst.bat off)

the problem is that dosinst apparently issues commands which can't fit the cdrom contents

only if you found install.bat somewhere on the cd and saw what it (install.bat) is supposed to do afterwards the haze could rise over the maze 😜

is it around ?

Another thought
what if you run atldos.exe ? Maybe (a huge maybe) it's got to be done first ?

Or do open that readme of yours that's there and search for some enlightenment within

1.There is no install.bat on the cd.
2.Running altdos gets me to that black screen.
3.The readme file says nothing about dos.

you know what that means don't you

it takes 2 to tango
it takes an installer to install (well, not always with dos games that's true)

probably altdos.exe might have been good after some install procedure, I ought to know the game to tell,

surely your cdrom appears defective to me
what if it's a windows only version, some dos install things chopped off

just a sensation, I don't claim to be right all the time

hey detroit
you still hanging around

have you seen this
http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23773

there's this ATL_DOS.zip
containg 16 files including one install.bat which reads

@echo off
md c:\atlgame
copy *.* c:\atlgame
c:
cd \atlgame
setsound.exe
echo .
echo . La prossima volta che vuoi giocare, digita:
echo . C:
echo . CD \ATLGAME
echo . ATLDOS
echo .
pause
atldos.exe

the sentence "La prossima volta etc." is curiously in Italian 🤣
were the Atlanteans from Italy ? I never met one so far though
and means:

next time you want to play, type:
(my special translation is free for you 😜 )

and look, the

md c:\atlgame
copy *.* c:\atlgame

lines
and the smell of that setsound.exe of course
might really be what you need for the zip to work for you in dos

that's for the 1st time
next time(s) once it's installed, carefully read my lips and do exactly as I say :

La prossima volta che vuoi giocare, digita: 😜
etc.

what about that

(and then don't go around saying I didn't think about you 😉 )

Hey, those files were just what I needed, I am able to play the game now. Thanks a lot gidierre and the others who replied for your time (and patience). I would not have been able to get this thing going by myself, glad I tried finding help here. I´ll surely have a lot of fun playing this game.

Thanks again and best wishes for 2009. 😎

Hey there!

Maybe I should start a new subject on this one...
I did not because of the experts all seem to de hanging over here 😏

My english is not great so please forgive me; I will try to explain myself as well as I can!

The posts over here have put me to run the dutch version of Atlantis the lost tales (Atlantis de verloren legende) on my Windows vista laptop by using DOSbox 0.72.

Just like detroit you guys have helped me very much so far; so thanks for that 😀 !

Now I run into a problem. In the first screen I see a mouse-cursor, which I need to control to start and play the game.

Look at the attachment >

Now here's the thing; it will not be moved 😳!
I work with a touchpad and a keyboard on my laptop...
No one key neither the touchpad does anything to that darn thing.

As you wise men have been of such a help, I thought I should ask you 🙄
My question for Detroit > have you ran into the self problem?
My question to all of you > have you got any advise on solving this one?

I'm sooooo very happy I can finally normally SEE the game atlantis on my screen again... Now this 😢

Greatfull hugs in advance

Q: The mouse doesn't work.
A: Usually, DOSBox detects when a game uses mouse control. When you click on
the screen it should get locked (confined to the DOSBox window) and work.
With certain games, the DOSBox mouse detection doesn't work. In that case
you will have to lock the mouse manually by pressing CTRL-F10.

Hi!

It's a good suggestion...

Unfortunately it doesn't work.
That is; my normal mouse disappears but the one in the game will still not move...

🙁

If that screen occurs, can you type "exit" followed by a return, and dosbox
exits then? You'll have to do that blind (the exit text won't be displayed on
the screen) as it's still in a graphics mode.

Just two cents: for me, I can move the mouse perfectly in the intro but no-one seems to ever be able to properly play the game because the movement when you look around in the game is so extremely slow that it's too painful to play. So even if you managed to use the mouse, I'm afraid the game is still not playable.

cycles=?

Okay, the problem with the slow movement while looking around is caused by setting your cycles too high. If I set it at 40.000 cycles it's playable - 80.000 makes it much harder to look around.

If I remember correctly, the (patches scrolls's) patch might also help. And try increasing mouse sensitivity to 300 or so.

The problem is not a slow mouse but rather the game not moving at all if you move your mouse too quickly. Lowering the cycles is the only thing that helps it seems.
