Thanks Gidierre... already tried that but the USB-mouse doesn't make it run either 😒

Hi Wd,

I tried this thing you said about typing exit followed by a return, on my keyboard that's the 'enter-key' and it worked 😀.

That is; the DOSbox closed itself as you said. It's not really clear to me what this means, so can you tell me if this is good or bad 😐 and what I can do next?

Thanks!

It means that the game has crashed. You can type CLS instead of exit and
see the dosbox command prompt. WHY it crashed for you i don't know as
there doesn't seem to be an error message.

Hi Red Avatar,

This sounds logical to me > I like it!

I'm studing the DOSbox wiki-file how the put the cycles down to 40.000 as you advice 😀 . I only get a thing about percentage when I find information on cycledown and cycle up... See below.

I guess I sound a bit like a fool by saying this but this computer-stuff is really like chinese for me. I'm just a girl (not to stupid not to smart) who wants to play a game and does not get why it will not work 😢 .

Sorry if you get the feeling you need te spell things for me because I'm afraid you will have to 😖

The point is > Untill now I don't get how I should get the cycles down to that exact number of 40.000

Any tips 😊 ?

WIKI-INFO ON CYCLES

cycles = nnnn | max | auto
Amount of instructions DOSBox tries to emulate each millisecond. Set to max to automatically run as many cycles as possible. auto setting switches to max if appropriate.

OBS: Setting this higher than your machine can handle is bad!

Default is auto.

cycleup = nnn
Amount of cycles to increase with keycombo.

Default is 500. Setting it lower than 100 will be a percentage.

cycledown = nnn
Amount of cycles to decrease with keycombo.

Default is 20. Setting it lower than 100 will be a percentage.

The sunshine-peachy ORANGE isn't very readable now is it? 😵

Feel free to post a complaint, it's bedtime here in Holland now so maybe in the morning after a good nights rest I will wake up as a newborn genius and against all odds solve this problem myself 😅

YES... A small victory for me

Thanks for al the suggestions people YARRRRW

Found out how to put the cycles to 40.000
Believe it or nog but I'm a little bit proud 😘 being a lady and pulling this of 😁

Also changed the Mouse-sensitivity to 300 in the config-file and replaced it.

There's a small point > when I get into the game-setup it changes the Cycles to percentages instead of the 40.000 I first set it to.

Out of the game it changes to 40.000 again... So are the percentages equal to the number of cycles I give up out of the game 😕 ?

Thow I changed this and tried different percentages for a little while the cursor will still give no kick.

I now also tried CLS -enter- after the previous effective EXIT-attempt.
After changing the cycles and the mouse-sensitivity both the EXIT as CLS not have any result anymore... Don't know if it has anything to do with a serious crash or means the game did not crash after me putting in a different ?clockspeed? 🤐 .

I'm going to sleep now for a while...

Goodnight

hey, what happened to your post ?

The last time I saw it it read cycles don't matter, period
now you seemed so sure of it, maybe too sure to me, and
look, how it has changed

but what I meant by cycles=? (probably too much of a shorthand) was just, if she doesn't play a bit with the cycles figure, how can she be sure that all's not about it?

but only if you're not much into the Nassau-Orange look and feel, as I understand,
that's just what Holland's soccer national team uses to mesmerize its opponents by, until they're wasted by it

I'll tell you, yes, personally I'd add a glass of red wine (want some Barbera?) to enhance the taste 😜

Veenin03 wrote:

we all know they were all put in a pretty solid crucified predicament weren't they 😵

well, what's with that cycles thing then?
You should perform some experiments about it, set to auto, max, 3000, 10000, 40000, whatever,
after all what's best for it is not so fully predictable afaik, since it may depend on your hardware too

also, try these on the fly, won't hurt

CTRL-F11 Slow down emulation (Decrease DOSBox Cycles).
CTRL-F12 Speed up emulation (Increase DOSBox Cycles).

EDIT:
btw you did read on page 1
what detroit & Qbix wrote didn't you:

Set: Core: Dynamic, Cycles:30.000+, mouse sensitivity 300+ and enable autolock mouse option.

and

type in dosbox:
core dynamic
cycles 35000

because if you didn't now would be a good time to do it 🙄

No, I first wrote that the cycles don't matter since the logical train of thought is "it moves too slow so you need to raise the cycles". Lowering them did the trick though - I guess the game had some trouble correctly reading the mouse input when the cycles are too high.

type in dosbox:
core dynamic
cycles 35000

Watch out about telling people this gidierre. I fear that a lot of people will find Dosbox to no longer work properly when 0.73 comes along because they changed the parameters for the cycles command. From 0.73 onwards, you'll need to type:

cycles fixed 35000

This also goes for the CVS versions. Maybe a 'legacy' mode should be built in?

Hey Gidierre,

Now I understand our soccer-team a little bit more... Thank you! Those poor boys just wear it in an attempt to distract some people. Oh my...

Doesn't explain why our succesfull girl hockey-team has to wear such iny tiny skirts in orange? It's less orange right?! I'm confused... Why don't they were pants?!

Might it dupplicate the distraction-level? That means the other girl hockey-team has to consist of very jealous ugle ladies or maybe they are all lesbian letting our girls score so much.

Our hockeyteam has been very succesfull for the last couple of years, so maybe they should coach our not-so-succesfull-anymore soccerteam by letting them wear iny tiny skirts 😀

Yes Gidierre, I'ld like some wine to go with that! (Red please)

And you've really got a point about the bright side of life thing! They were, weren't they 😦?

Back to the subject then > I have already tried different cycle speeds by using the CTRL F11 and CTRL F 12 keys.

Doesn't do the trick I guess

I'm on my way for a weekend of fun, how can that be without Atlantis running on my lap? I don't know, it's just a party seeing my friends. My next attempts will be on Monday so I'll try those other cycle-suggestions then as my train leaves in an hour.

Thanks everyone!

And Gidierre > What is that avatar of yours? I dreamt of it lastnight... Wasn't pleasant :Happyhappy:

Have a nice weekend!

hal implemented a fallback so it works the same as before, not sure if
Qbix already committed that though.

thanks, I surely will 😜

You watch out too, though, because this way you're honoring me too much more than I deserve, especially since all I was doing there was quoting no less than Qbix himself, as he'd stated

Ahah! Glad it will be 😀. It's hard to write batch files that auto-set cycles when you got to enter it twice for both types :p

You're telling me... main reason I don't follow our women's field hockey league too much (assuming we do have one here--do we? that's where being athletes of a very tall race will help, it's poor looking aesthetically if they're shorter than their very sticks)
is to avoid being distracted by their skirts' color, although in truth be it orange or indago, anything goes, all the more so as long as their alpha channel (transparency) value is satisfying 😎

Veenin03 wrote:

well, for a long time I alternated as avatar the good and the bad robber in J.Bosch's Kruisdraging (in Gent, resp. upper right & lower right)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3d … hentVersion.jpg

then I changed century and latitude and what you see is Francis Bacon, Bacon like this Painting,1946 by him:
http://francis-bacon.cx/figures/painting46.html

the image I picked anyway is from Three studies of the Human Head, 1953
http://francis-bacon.cx/portraits/blue.html
so close in fact to his elegant, moody Man in blue series, e.g.:
http://francis-bacon.cx/portraits/maninblueVII.html
onrustbarend, n'est-ce pas? but even that, only to the sensitive beholder 😊

what about this Study after Velazquez
http://www.artquotes.net/masters/bacon/paint_study.htm
that would also have made a good avatar for me, unfortunately I couldn't afford it: admittedly I'm no pope myself (yet, but working hard on it)

And Atlantis Tales? Still lost?
It finally dawned on me I once played this game, but it was a Windows 95 version of it iirc 🙄 and little do I remember except it delivered a sort of relaxed, yet uncanny sensation to me.

Hey.
I just tried to play Atlantis in dosbox, but still after trying everything I read in this thread, I still hav the problem of the very insensitive mouse. (even with sensitivity set to 30000 😁 )
Only setting the cycles to 35000 was working, but with this setting the game isnt really playable (much too slow) Only with cycles = 50000+ its playable on my pc, but then there is the mouse issue again. I don't know what to do further. I would so much like to play this game 🙁

Hi there! A new Noob has joined the forums haha

I know this topic is already a little over time but it is the only topic in the world talking about playing atlantis lost tales.

by the way ive got the DUTCH version called

Atlantis : de verloren legende

i have worked hard to understand dosbox and now i have Atlantis working!

in used this topic as a manual, it was quite hard but i survived.

But still there is one problem that was not fixed within this topic, and then i am talking about the frozen mouse button!.

Yes, in this topic i read that crtl + f10 solved the problem and yes a mouse pointer came up. But it was not the white pointer but a black one that could not make contact with the game screen.

another guy said: type exit and return, i just dont know what he means by that and how to do that, i typed the word exit during the title screen of atlantis but notphing seemed to happen.

At the end of the topic everybody was talking about cycles, but the anser for the frozen mouse pointer is not solved yet and i want to know how to make the game really work!

Also the intro movie played nice so i dont know i have to change the cycles, i also changed the mouse sensivity to 300 in the word dosbox text document for configuration options.

finaly, i use dosbox 0.73, could it be that dosbox 0.72 makes the pointer work? i am gonna try to find out now,

my specs:

mount c c:\dosgames
mount d e:\ -t cdrom -noioctl
D:
D:\>dosinst
after this i have to set soundcard settings
when done click button to start game.

i installed atlantis on the d drive because on the c he could not find enough space to store pff are you kidding:P

also i have not used a patch yet, i dropped the atl_dos map into d:CRYO but when entering in dosbox D:atldos instead of D:dosinst ATLDOS is illegal cmmando,,
if you need more information i am pleased to hear it.

thanks allready for your EPIC HELPP!! 😀

HI there again! i found a way to play the game without using DOSBOX

the only stupid thing is that the actors move like an idiot not irriting much but playable.
also plays the game smooth under vista when doing the next thing i tell you now:

Install atlantis on vista then in compatibility mode select disable visualble themas. also select administrator mode and
play under windows NT4 .

also i installed a patch made for xp, unzip it in the atlantis folder, patch called AT1CDINT also i unzipped a saves patch that contains every safe game for the game, this could be handy when going from cd1 to 2 where you hear alot problems about. This patch is called AT1SAFE it

here the link to the ATLANTIS1PATCHES pack, it contains these and other little exclusive atlantis patches that help you play atlantis under XP and mayby vista to.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jwhite64/data/Atla … tis1patches.zip

STILL I HOPE SOMEBODY CAN TELL ME THE ANSER ABOUT HOW I CAN GET THE MOUSE POINTER MOVING WHEN PLAYING THE GAME TROUGH DOSBOX Thanks for your help.

😊 😅 😁

Install the game inside dosbox, also installing it on d:\ (your CD-ReadOnlyMemory)
sounds quite stupid to me.

Check the threads in the guides forum for step-by-step instructions.

ah interesting to see this thread. I have created a patch pack for Atlantis Lost Tales that includes all the patches and tools to get it to run on XP and possibly also on Vista without having to use DosBox...but that will depend on your set up and system. here is the link:

http://www.filefront.com/17879489/Atlantis-Lo … P-Fix-Pack.zip/

I see my old friend from Tomb Raider forums Gidierre is here.

That multiple shape image is from an FX card trying to run the program and there is a fix for that in the patch pack. Enjoy this old classic...the figures are a bit, um, old, but it is great to get to see the great city of Atlantis that so many games were made about.
