Tired of dealing with late and sub par performing ATi (AMD) Linux drivers for your Radeon cards? You can now build your own if you have the appropriate skill set.

After releasing the needed 2D documentation a while back, AMD now released all the 3D documentation you might need to make your very own 3D accelerating drivers.

You can get the doc in pdf format from X.Org. It's about 166 pages long and only intended for serious developers. End users looking for a quick way to make walls transparent (remember those ATi drivers?) will quickly be disappointed.

Mind you, I've programmed Unix drivers from scratch for my University thesis and it's no walk in the park. My card and system were not nearly as complex as your basic AMD system yet we spent many hours trying to squeeze out another frame per second from Doom II. So you might want to wait for the programming guide AMD plans to release.
