Hey folks! Long time lurker, huge fan of DOSbox (thank you guys!)...

I'm am planning to continue my Ravenloft: Stone Prophet game. Everything is working fine (I am using DOSbox via the D-Fend Reloaded shell) but I cannot get the in-game cinematics to work.

I cannot seem to located a way to handle full video issues in DOSbox/D-Fend. Any suggestions on what I can do to resolve this would be fine.

As an example, the main menu allows you to "Show Introduction"...I click it, the text changes color, and there is a long pause...and nothing happens (the text color resets).

Within the program folder is a folder called "Cine" and within that are 69 files. There are two related files for each name, for example...

OPEN.ACT
OPEN.DFA

Unfortunately, my Adobe Photoshop sees the ACT file as one of its own...clicking on either file produces no results and I have been unable to track down what these file sufixs are. I am decent with getting DOS games to run, except when it comes to movies such as these...

Any advice?

Hi Lustvig,

Did you install the game from within DOSBox, and did you keep your mounting the same when trying to start the game?

No - I installed from outside DOSbox, and then used the D-Fend wizard to mount the game into DOSbox...

Are you suggesting that would make the difference? Can you provide more specifics. I am using D-Fend as I cannot do the DOSBox command line stuff - way too old school for my brain, and way too tricky...

Thanks in advance...

It makes a difference as the paths are different depending on the mounting.

Please reinstall the game WITHIN dosbox and make sure you're using the
exactly same mounting when playing the game as you used during installation.

OK - using a tip on how to install from CD using D-Fend (see Installing CD games using D-Fend Reloaded Frontend), I install from within DOSbox via DFend. I allowed D-Fend to automatically mount the program.

[However, this reply from that post has me confused...what is the poster warning about?

"You can create a temporary profile, using your D:\INSTALL.EXE (or wathever the path and name of the installation program are) as the main EXE.

Just make sure the folder you use as C: is mounted as well. Once the game is installed, you can edit the profile so it matches your new game."]]

Installation went fine, sound card detected as Soundblaster 16, which I then configured and Stone Prophet accepted.

I then changed the Program File directory from Install to SP.EXE (the main game executable). I then ran the game, which ran fine - but again totally skipped the cinematics...

Any other suggestions?

Don't use dfend but read the 60 seconds guide in the guides section here. You don't have to master dos commands to follow that guide...

Yeah - while I was out this afternoon, I was thinking of the behavior of the program. When it pauses, then reverts to the in-game play, it is acting as if it is "looking" for the movie files on the CD.

So obviously, I need to make sure the whole mounting process is correct. My guess is that I need to do this manually via DOSbox, so that I can be more precise on how and where the files are located.

Thanks for the advice - I will report back....

Also - simply because I like the interface (although it could do with a few more items such as a better GUI with which to view game details you could input and links to sites with info on the game), I was able to figure out how the mounting works and set up D-Fend with the correct mounting paths.

Easy and done!

Thanks for the advice, and thanks again to the brilliant DOSbox folks!

Now - could someone please make a universal emulator for Win 95 and Win 98 games that could force a fullscreen game into a window so I can actually play a number of games currently unplayable because I have a widescreen monitor?

Genius!
