I'm recording video with DosBox and it works perfectly - except for one thing. The videos contain all Sound FX but not the midi music from the game. Is this a known problem and if so - how do I solve it?

it is a known problem. select a different sound source than midi.

So if the game has nothing but midi music I'm screwed?

well you could capture the midi music using a different program and merge the video and audio together with some editor.
But as far as dosbox you are screwed.

You could also capture the MIDI data (CTRL-ALT-F8) and afterwards "render" the recorded MIDI file into an audio file (with for example midi2wav) and add it to the recorded video.
