this is far from my first time using the dos-box , I basically do what you say in your guide,
here is what I have under my autoexec:
mount c c:\DOS
mount e e:\ -t cdrom
c:
For the installation I opened the E drive window
then I run the "INSTALL" file,
a window opens and I get to choose where to install,
I type in the directory "C:\DOS\rama",
i can't choose for the sound: it's soundblaster by default (the readme talks about some extremely exotic and tiresome way of choosing other soundrivers eventually , I sincerely hope I won't have to try),
I have to choose 3 option to tell my driver speed X2 X3 or X4 (it doesn't seem to matter which I choose),
it copies files in the rama folder,
I open the dos-box and type cd rama
sier
the sierra logo appear along with a nice clear sound (unlike when I run it under windows)
then I get the error 99.
hope I've been precise enough
I just checked the readme again , and it doesn't say about this particular error.

The error is when you try to run a Sierra game when you don't correctly specify the location of its resources. Remember, if you are mounting C: as C:\DOS, then DOSBox will see C:\DOS\rama as C:\RAMA. You need to start it with a batch file that also points to the RESOURCE.CFG file. If it is in the game's folder, sier .\RESOURCE.CFG should start the game, if the paths in the RESOURCE.CFG point to the game's folder and your CD drive as DOSBox sees it.
sier .\RESOURCE.CFG does start the game (the intro screen with sierra's logo anyway), but I still get the same error.
The game readme and end of installation message tells me I should run the game with the "ramados" command, it does not work.
If you know akril, or she is around here, knowing every last detail of what she did , and maybe her dos-box settings, could help me.
here is what I have under my autoexec:
mount c c:\DOS\rama
mount e e:\ -t cdrom
c:
I also tried with "mount c c:\DOS" ,doesn't seem to make a difference.
I tried making an installation in the default folder "Sierra\RAMADOS" with "mount c c:\sierra" or ..sierra\ramados , same result.
and here is what is in Rama's resource.cfg which is in the rama folder:
and finally , in case it helps, the complete error message:
Error 99: error loading resource 1001.snd
i:\sys\interps\restype.cpp(97)
Script # 64989 ($ff00fc24+)
Maybe putting all this in the same place will help me see what's wrong, in the meantime thank you for your help 😀

Sorry you took my answer badly, it was not my intention.
To be honest I do exactly what you say in your guide, and I do not see where my particular problem is adressed .
I did make a search on this forum before posting.
It just seemed normal to me that the resource.cfg had
"resSfx =C:\DOS\RAMA;CD:\"
instead of
"resSfx =C:\RAMA;CD:\"
Some problem definitely look easier than they really were once we have the answer.
I'll make more complete first posts in the future.
Where in your guide do you talk about checking resource.cfg file ?
I checked the readme and install txt one more time and they do not talk about it either.
I know it's natural to think I did not follow the instruction properly, but I thought I made it clear this was not the source of my problem
I was doing precisely what you say in your guide before I even read it, because it must be at least the 30th game I play with the dos-box.
There's no need for bad temper; the problem is solved, and I do think your guide is well written.
What he's saying is by following the guide for installation it will run correctly the first time. Checking the resource file is to confirm this, which he's suggesting in his post here, not the guide.
What I mean is that I did make an installation following his instructions to the letter, and in the case of the Rama game it was not so simple, because of the way it install itself.
I am not a liar

Further arguments are pointless since we'd have to be all in the same room ;
