I'm playing King's Quest IV (Original with typing). How do I save my game? I'm using D-Fend if that helps any.
Will also be playing KQ 5 and 6-would I save my games the same way?

Drag mouse cursor to top of screen, click on in-game menu option to save the game.
There isn't a menu at the top of the top of the screen
Press the ESC key, highlight File, then select Save.
That got me a little further, but now it's saying it can't find the directory.
How are you mounting your drives? In which directory is your game located?
All right, I've got it. I've got the game files on both C and D drives (Backup) and setup D-Fend to load the D drive one, while D-Fend and DosBox are both installed on the C drive. Re-ran setup to run the game on the C drive, and it's working now. I take it that was the problem (Running program on different drive than DosBox and D-Fend were installed)?
Thanks for the help!!!
Now how can I make it go full screen?
Don't use DFend because it's WAY outdated, use some recent frontend like
dbgl, dfend reloaded etc.
fullscreen switching can be found in the readme.
Using DFend reloaded, and that worked, but now I'm back to the original problem. It wants to know where to save files. I did make sure I'm doing everything on the C drive this time.
Also, I'm not getting any in game speech from King's Quest 5 or 6. Is this normal, or is there something I can do about it?
Install the game inside dosbox.
For the sound stuff: configure it correctly using the install.exe or setup.exe

How in the heck do I install the game in DosBox? That's why I'm using a front end 🤣
How in the heck do I install the game in DosBox?
Check the guides forum.
I've done that. I did mange to remap a key so I could use the \ in DosBox. However, it won't let me use Shift, so I can only do a ; instead of a : How do I fix that?
Check the readme for keyboard layouts if you're using non-us.
And when posting next time include full system specs including dosbox version.
It's a US keyboard (I'm in the US).
As far as specs:
Intel Pentium 4 3.6 Ghz with Hyper Threading
2 GBs DDR 3200 RAM
ATI Radeon X700 Pro Video Card (PCI-Express)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro Sound Card
Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit
DosBox 0.72
DFend Reloaded 0.7.0
Are you using the 2006 collection? If so, you'll have to install in Windows since it doesn't have a DOS installer.
Not the 2006 Collection, or XP, or whatever that is.
Remove all remappings (rename/delete mapper.txt) and post EXACTLY
what doesn't work in that state. Also check what happens when you
set usescancodes=false in your dosbox.conf
And all this without any sort of frontend, especially take care that you're
using a default dosbox.conf to start with.
: doesn't work. I just get ; and the Shift key doesn't do anything.
