Cannot perform calculate function in Lotus123

Lotus123 works great as in opening files and printing. However, when I open a big balance sheet and press F9 to calculate - lotus123 tells me to wait but nothing happens
any suggestions would be appreciated

cpu is intel core 2 duo running windows xp pro
