Okay, I start up the installation, everything works fine, up until it copies files from the CD. It always gets stuck at XMI.RL, for some mysterious reason. This is exactly what appears in DOSBOX, and the specific choices I make in the installation:

Z:\>mount D E:\ -t cdrom
MSCDEX installed.
Drive D is mounted as CDRom E:\

Z:\>mount x C:\T7Gfile
Drive X is mounted as local directory C:\T7Gfile\

Z:\>D:

D:\>install.bat

Now here's the stuff I chose in the installation:
Drive X:

X:\id\t7g\

Then I chose SVGA 486 based machines, and I chose Sound Blaster ASP/16 for sound and music.

Then it starts the installation, while the Status Window spits out "SHELL: Redirect output to nul" over and over, as a bunch of files get copied in the DOSbox in strange garbage text, then it stops when it copies XMI.RL. It doesn't close; it just freezes.

Is there something I'm forgetting? If I forgot to mention something, please let me know.

I can't even OPEN the CD in windows, unless I right-click and select "Explore". When I do that, I can copy the contents. But if I can't open the disc normally, what does that mean?

Hmm, sometimes if the CD is dirty or bad quality then Autorun can take forever to load. It's probably that.

If you can explore the CD and copy the file then you should be good.

That it may have a bad autorun program. The important thing is to ascertain whether the files themselves can be read. Can you copy the entire disc to your hard drive without errors?

Well, I can copy everything from both discs onto my hard drive okay.

It's strange, though. It installed just fine on my old XP (though I still couldn't play it. Go figure. 😜 )

EDIT: However, even though I've copied everything, I still have no idea how to install it properly without the disc. I tried using install.exe instead of install.bat, and it said that the second disc could not be found, so I had to exit installation, mount the CD drive, and run installation again, and it still stopped at XMI.RL.

2nd edit: It looks like BackwardsCamel had the same problem, so there wasn't really any need to copy the stuff from the CDs.

So I try to run the game, and I get the message that says Error: Couldn't load the sound driver". So I run install.exe in the file, change the music/speech options to something else, then it exits the installation program, saying there's a file missing from the folder.

And now, for whatever reason, another file pops up inside the folder with ID\T7G as the pathname. What's inside is a "groovie.ini" file that has the changes I made, as well as DEBUG.T7G.

Is there a particular reason why it's doing this?

Z:\>mount x C:\T7Gfile

Please explain, why X?

Do you have autoexec.bat and config.sys files in the mounted folder?
The installer stalls without these in 0.73. Have you tried 0.72?
Though it normally stalls at README.TXT.

it said that the second disc could not be found

That's odd. The installer should be on disc 2. If you try from disc 1 it says it was moved to disc 2 for space.

No, I haven't tried .72, actually. I'll give it a shot.

Don't worry about it; that's a moot issue.

I did it! I got it to work!

All I had to do was copy the files in the folder and paste it into the new folder the installer created after I adjusted the sound settings.

There's sound, speech, and the movies work fine.

But when you move around the house, the framerate is choppy as hell. 😖

Unfortunately, that's a known issue with this game.
