I gave up trying to get my DOS games working a while ago, but I got an itch to play System shock, so I thought I'd give another crack at it. I only used DOSbox to (try to) play games, and I had run into a few problems. First and foremost, most of the games wouldnt even get to gameplay. Like Darkseed, for example, after the intro, the game would lock up, and the screen would become garbled. Of the 1 game that would work, I hit another major problem. Whenever I tried to put these games (ex. system shock) into fullscreen mode, the it would go into fullscreen, but the picture would become garbled as well, and would crash shortley thereafter. A while back, I posted about that and was told to change "output=" in dosbox.conf to a different value such as overlay or ddraw. Well, I tried both, and it still didn't seem to work, but I might have just messed something up. Also, now when I try to install System shock (though im not quite sure what file I need to execute anymore), all the commands are jibberish, and I have no clue what Im doing. Id love to be able to play these games, so If anyone know how to help me out, I would be really grateful.

Also, If you have time, I remember that every time I tried to get "Elder scrolls arena" to run, it ran incredibly slow, so If anyone know how to fix that as well, I would appreciate it also.

What about posting at least the bare minimum of information like what
OS you're on, dosbox version etc.?

First and foremost, most of the games wouldnt even get to gameplay.

Install them in dosbox and configure them correctly.

every time I tried to get "Elder scrolls arena" to run, it ran incredibly slow

You DID check out the readme, or the intro screen??

Sorry about that. Im running Vista on a toshiba Satellite laptop, and my DOSbox version is 0.72.

Like I had stated in my first post, the games would run, but when the actual gameplay was supposed to start, it froze. As I spent more time poking around with the files, I found that this is really only a problem with Darkseed. I was able to fix my fullscreen problem with the midifications I was advised and by having it boot in fullscreen, so games like system shock and blood run just fine (so far). I don't think its a problem with the game (darkseed), since i've tried a few different versions already, all giving me the same results. What's intresting to note is that there are 2 different applications in my current darkseed folder, One entitled "START," while the other is called "TOS". My current method of getting these games to run is by dragging the applications or batch files over the DOSbox Icon, but when I try the "Start" App, I get prompted for the sound type and interface choice, then it proceeds with the intro as it always had. Then, as it reaches the area where the game is supposed to start, it just goes to a black screen and stays there until my patience runs out and I kill the program. However, when I try the "TOS" app, the game picks up where the other app seemingly left off, and I start the gameplay. I can play the game, up untill I try to leave the house (which I assume is where I needed to go), then it goes to a black screen like it had after the intro. Any suggestions?

Also, as far as elder scrolls Arena is concerned, the game still runs horribly slow. I tried the app labeled "Install", but it wont let me proceed, saying that I need the floppy disk (which I obviously don't have). So, I just try the batch file with the name of the game instead, and it runs as though I never needed to installed it. As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

The keystroke helped Elder scrolls to a certen extent, though there is still significant framerate issues, and darkseed has been operating in an odd way.

I must not have been clear in my last post, but neither game has configurable options, darkseed doesnt have an install, and the install for Elder Scrolls doesnt work

Also, the intro screen only flashes up on the computer for a brief second when I start a game, and I DID read the readme, but its been awhile, so I need to refresh my memory.

It seems that the problems are only in the individual games themselves now, so Ill repost for each with a more detailed description later.

You know, being rude in a reply, isn't really necessary.

My Darkseed starts with DS.bat. In it's README.TXT it says:

The first time you play DARK SEED, a menu of set-up options will appear

This would be START.EXE. After this exits the batch file runs TOS.EXE. This is why you get that black screen. You only ran the one part which ended.
