Hey all,
I just got DOSBox and I'm loving it so far. I've decided to take another crack at an old favorite, Bard's Tale III.
I played it originally on the Apple II, and on that platform the game would make a little click each time you moved a step, a little chirp when you kicked down a door, and a *donk* sound when you ran into a wall. Now either the DOS version has none of these sounds as part of the game, or something is broken with my setup. It makes it awfully hard to figure out what's going on when you're roaming a dungeon in a dark zone. However, the MIDI tunes that sound when playing a bard song seem to work fine. These are the only sounds I get in the game.
So... is it possible that the movement sounds were not included in the DOS version? Or do I have a fixable problem?
I've tried running the Bard's Tale III setup and selecting AdLib, while SB16 is what's is set up in DOSBox and which should have AdLib support -- that didn't seem to work. There is a similar problem with Bard's Tale II but I haven't explored it too much. I haven't changed the default SB16 data (base, IRQ, DMA, etc.).
I'm running DOSBox on Vista Ultimate. I have a Dell laptop with 2 gigs RAM, the sound is just an onboard sound controller. It has a Core2 Duo 1.6GHz processor. The version of DOSBox is 0.73.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
