I downloaded dOSBox to play Mad Dog McCree on my vista computer. But unfortunately it is one of those wierd older games that you install a batch file onto your computer to run it, making mounting it not work right.

When I try mounting the CD and running the EXE from there it says "Cannot open file \photo7\maddog\blow.8b, sound file is missing."

When I try mounting the CD and running the install instead, it lets me go through the three install questions but then always says "Bad Directory" and wont install the batch file.

I tried installing Mad Dog on a friends computer, saving the folder with the installed batch file on a flash drive and putting it on my computer that way, then mounting and running that, but then it just gives me a message saying that command is illegal.

I checked the dosbox.com and it says mad dog is fully compatible and supported.

So how do you run games that require this tricky batch file install system?

Thanks to all help!

Just to make sure, are you using Windows 3.1?

Never mind, I had my discs mixed up. There was a rerelease for Windows and I had it in the box for the original leading me to think it was a Windows 3.1 game.

The batch file just points to the executable on the disc so that shouldn't cause an issue. I don't see how it interferes with mounting.

MOUNT C C:\DOS\GAMES -t dir
IMGMOUNT D C:\DOS\Mad_Dog.iso -t iso
C:\
CD MADDOG
MADDOG.BAT

If you launch with D:\MADDOG.EXE that will produce the "Sound file is missing" error.
The batch file points to:

D:\maddogb.exe

There is also a MADDOG.CFG file that says:

U
D:MADDOG.LIB
D:MADDOG.SCN
