I've been racking my brains trying to get the old classic Grand Prix 2 running under DOSBox. Technically it works fine, just as long as I run the game under a normal fully-emulated i386 core. As soon as I try to run the game with dynamic recompilation, DOSBox conks out with a "DOSBox has encountered an error and needs to close". It might be worth mentioning that I'm running this on a quad-core Phenom PC.

The problem here is that, to run at it's best, GP2 needs to be run at around 90000 cycles. Absolutely no problem in dynamic core mode (my PC manages around 250000 before starting to slow down) but only manages approx. 60000 in normal/simple core mode.

I guess I'll have to make do with reduced graphics, but does anyone have any idea why DOSBox itself makes such a fuss? Thanks!

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Whatever the bug was, the problem has been fixed in the latest CVS build (for people with the same problem looking for a solution here - CVS build dated 15 January 2010).

I'm now gonna enjoy a round of 25fps SVGA GP2 😀

Confirmed, was working in 0.72, stopped working in 0.73 and is working again in RC1.
