Hi there,

I've got a problem with several games like "The Incredible Machine" or "Sim City 2000" in fullscreen mode. The font is mostly not sharp. With other games like "Monkey Island 1", "Ski Or Die" or "Winter Challenge" etc. I don't have this problem, the font and the graphics are really sharp and nice. See Screenshots of "The incredible Machine":

Windowed - clear font:

Fullscreen - font not sharp:

I've got a 1280x800 laptop. The settings are:

fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=1280x800
windowresolution=original
output=overlay
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper.txt
usescancodes=true

frameskip=0
aspect=false
scaler=normal3x

I've tried with many different options, but without success. Any ideas to improve that? Do you know why this problem occurs only with several games? Thanks.

Greetings

I would suggest that your laptop's screen is an imperfect fit here. The Incredible Machine uses a very strange 640x448 in-game resolution. Your laptop cannot quite manage a sharp 2:1 pixel stretch on the vertical, which is why DOSBox must interpolate, unless you connect your laptop to an external monitor with at least a 1280x1024 resolution. SimCity 2000 uses a more standard 640x480 resolution, so you have the same problem. Many DOS games use a 320x200 resolution, which can scale perfectly to a 1280x800 laptop screen.

you have to use:

fullresolution=1280x800
output=openglnb

scaler=none

Same problem with 22" TFT (1680x1050) and different options. Somebody has the same problem?

You can't do much about it. The game is 640x448 pixels, your display is 1680x1050. Some options:
fullresolution=1680x1050 # set this then set one of the following three configurations

# this will get you a sharp view but with black bars all around
output=surface
scaler=normal2x
aspect=false

# this removes the top and bottom black bars but is blurry
output=opengl
aspect=true # or false
scaler=none

# this is sharp but jaggy without the top and bottom black bars
output=openglnb
aspect=false # or true if you want correct aspect ratio
scaler=none
