Flashback: The Quest for Indentity.... Whenever a cut-scene in or any part of the game involving midi music occurs (running in Dosbox), a continuous and annoying noise is heard and contiues playing even after the game is ended. The only way to stop the noise is to stop dosbox running.

I have played around with the conf file in order to get it right but so far nothing.

Thanks for any help.

This happens if you choose mt32 through sb midi port in game's installation
(you placed adlib in subject but i don't see this problem with adlib - can you confirm?)

So use either adlib, or lapc1.

But the second option is "MT32, LAPC1... " no options for one or the other. Just selecting this has the same problem.

By Selecting Adlib/Soundblaster for the music, the game runs too slow, cycles have to be on max for the game to be up to speed, which brings problems all of it's own.

The continous noise is not an adlib problem, I was wrong.

Thanks again.

Indeed, i hear it in "MT32, LAPC1... " too.

For adlib it is enough to use cycles=5000

Well, something strange has happened, it now runs perfectly. Strange as I just set if to 1280x1024 resolution ddraw so I was expecting slower.

Aldib/soundblaster music with soundblaster sound, cycles on auto.

I've tried that many combinations it's hard to be sure, possibly changing it to "vgaonly" helped.

Phew ...and I was about to give up and go back to the genesis emulator.

Thanks robertmo.

nevertheless check cycles=5000 as i think you still doesn't have the right speed 😉

btw - midi problem doesn't happen with real mt-32 and with munt so i guess it is not a dosbox problem.

well.. quite a lot of settings affect it (cycles=, core=, sbtype=) so just use the one that works best 😉

nevertheless 6000 and more should work for all settings.
