1. Motherboard (Asus P5K3 Deluxe)

2.Processor type and speed (Intel E6700 @ 2.66 GHz)

3.Amount and type of RAM (Corsair XMS DDR3, 4 Gigs)

4.Video board w/ RAM amount and type (Nvidia GeForce GTX 280, 1 Gig of video memory)

5.Sound board (Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty)

6.Operating system (Windows 7, 64 bit)

7.Game name (Master of Orion, ver 1.03)

8.Description of problem (I downloaded version 0.73 of DOSBox and went to play MOO. The game started out playing fine, but after a bit the colors would become corrupted. Shutting down MOO and re-starting would fix this problem so I didn't think much of it. But then I started up DOSBox/MOO and then the game refused to start new games/load old games or basically respond to any commands. Even trying to exit the game failed. I would have to go back to the windows desktop and force the shutdown. The game worked fine under DOSBox 0.70 and Windows XP so I un-installed version 0.73 and installed version 0.70 under Windows 7 to see if that would work. New edit as I just duplicated the video corruption with 0.70 under Windows 7 as well. 0.70 hasn't duplicated the complete non functionality yet.)

9.Reproducibility of problem (always)

10.Sound mode used (Standard from default install for both versions 0.70 and 0.73)

11.Video mode (Standard from default install for both versions 0.70 and 0.73)

12.Version of emulator (for VDMSound, probably 2.0.4 or 2.1.0; for DOSBox, 0.58+). Guessing it will be as listed here as I only tested this with versions 0.70 and 0.73.

The problem is explorer.exe.
if you kill it before dosbox it doesn't happen.
As work around try changing the graphics output dosbox uses from surface to ddraw.

Problem is I don't have any instances of Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer running when this happens. I only have Windows 7 up and click on the shortcut to DOSBox.

Work around did fix the color issue but I'm guessing it also changed the resolution that the game displayed at. It is not using like the bottom 1/4th of the monitor now.

All else was fine for an hour or 2 then Windows 7 minimized DOSBox and complained about going to a basic windows color scheme as the application didn't support the windows color scheme.

Thanks Robert. That did the trick.
