So, after 14 years I decided to dig this topic out.
If You wanna play Alien Trilogy (doesn't matter in dos or win) and hear audio CD music You need to have an image file along with CUE that is 500+ MB of size. My original game is full of scratches so I had to make an backup copy.
There maybe images that are the same size available on the internet but of course don't suppport piracy and download it only if You own original game CD. Still there is original game to buy 😉
And now is the trick to make it work. Use Alcohol to burn it (no imgburn or other program!) with :
1. pre-option of AudioCD (not AudioCD+/without plus!) or:
2. manualy DAO/SAO + Sub data - (without) EFM correction... And it will WORK. .... I've spend few CDs to make those test...
Additionaly, to be sure that it works, under Windows98 right click on CD press play and it should see 17+ tracks. Under DOS go for redneck rampage, put the cd BEFORE you enter RR.exe and in sound menu go for 8 track player to see if everything is ok...
One more thing. For those who struggle to install the game (8mb memory error) on some PC configurtions you need to go to BIOS and tick the memory hole ISA 15m-16m - just for the installation .... Then the himem.sys + emm386.exe and It will work 😀
There is one more matter here to check - soundblaster users You need to install drivers under dos, CTCM.exe is a must to work and detect Your card + in mixerset.exe CD must be set from 0 as it is turn off by default.....
Enjoy Your game 😀
Well... I miss 80/90s ... End of story
