The game works well in DOSBox 0.74. I've used "core=dynamic" and "cycles=max". Performance seems to be a little bit better with Gulikoza's build (090704) though.
There are some quirks, however. First of all the game can't be installed from a mounted directory (virtual CD), which is inconvenient. In fullscreen mode the graphical installer is painfully slow with DOSBox 0.74. For instance, when the install app opens two metal-looking bars are scrolled into the display from the left and right. This happens "line by line", and takes a few seconds, especially in fullscreen mode (windowed seems to be a bit faster). I've had a few instances where the game wouldn't register the left mouse button in menus and i had to use the right button (!). After some clicking around the left button suddenly worked again. There seems to be no way of configuring the controller (button assignment or test) which is stupid for a sports game. To me it seems the DOS port has been done very badly and in a hurry. The game comes with a native Win9x exe (DirectX), so it's no wonder EA didn't put too much effort into the native DOS version.
Oh, and sports games are soooo boring. (;
